Shaquille O’Neal Says Chris Paul Shouldn’t Be Part Of The MVP Conversation This Season

Chris Paul is once again proving he’s one of the best point guards the NBA has seen in 75 years of history. The talented player is playing with his fifth team in the association, the Phoenix Suns, trying to lead the team to the postseason for the first time in 11 years.

CP3, alongside Devin Booker, is taking this team to the 2nd position in the Western Conference, only trailing the Utah Jazz for the top spot. This has led a lot of people to believe Paul should be considered an MVP candidate for this season but not everybody is convinced he’s deserving of that honor. For instance, Shaquille O’Neal made the case against Paul, explaining that the things he’s done aren’t enough to put him at the level of LeBron James or Joel Embiid (1:47 mark).

“Listen, Chris Paul is having a great year. He does have the youngsters playing, he’s leading them very well, they’re playing well, Devin Booker is starting to get his form back, but I disagree. He should not be mentioned for MVP,” O’Neal stated.

As usual, he engaged in a heated debate with Charles Barkley, who said that the Suns playing at the level they’re playing should be enough to put Paul as one of the names to get the award.

“Then change the award to Most Valuable Team, don’t say the Most Valuable Player. Most Valuable Player is singular… Player is singular,” O’Neal replied to his co-host.

CP3 is still demonstrating he’s one of the best players in his position. Last year he took the Oklahoma City Thunder to the postseason when nobody believed in them and now he’s taking the Suns to compete at the highest level with Booker by his side. He won’t win the MVP this season but this is another display of how great Paul is and has been his entire career.
