John Salley Says Stephen Curry And LeBron James Teaming Up Wouldn’t Work Out: “I Don’t Think It’d Be Good For Steph…”

2 Min Read

LeBron James and Stephen Curry were two stars that dominated the NBA for a long stretch of time. Their teams often went head to head in the NBA Finals. In the recent All-Star game, we got to witness Stephen Curry and LeBron James play on the same team, instead of going against one another.

After the All-Star break, it was said that LeBron James was recruiting Stephen Curry during the event. That idea excited many fans. The prospect of two top-tier superstars teaming up, especially two superstars that have had fierce battles in the Finals, is certainly intriguing. Stephen Curry spacing the floor for LeBron James would be absolutely insane. However, there are some people that don’t see a team-up between the two as appealing. Recently, former NBA champion John Salley has stated that the team-up wouldn’t necessarily be good for Stephen Curry.

I don’t think it’d be good for Steph… But for Steph Curry to come here and share the court with LeBron, there’s not enough room. There’s not enough basketballs for Steph to be on the same team. The games will be 165 points per game. Vegas would be happy. But Steph should retire in a Golden State jersey. Period.

Stephen Curry and LeBron James are certainly high usage superstars who have distinct styles of play. Stephen Curry plays well off the ball, but he still is a shot creator that is used to being the No. 1 option. As John Salley pointed out: there could potentially be “not enough basketballs” to completely make their styles completely work with one another. However, he does admit that the offense on this potential team would be next level, with “165 points per game”. While it is hard to see Stephen Curry leave the Golden State Warriors, a team-up between these top superstars would be absolutely amazing.
