After going through a losing streak in the first month of the 2021/22 NBA season, the Milwaukee Bucks are finally getting things back on track. They have won their last four games, bringing their record to 10-8, enough to rank 7th in the Eastern Conference standings.
Giannis Antetokounmpo keeps dominating, although the wins didn’t come with his incredible performances. The Greek Freak won the 2021 NBA championship and he’s not slowing down anytime soon.
This may become a problem for his rivals, as JJ Redick recently claimed. Talking with Tommy Alter on ‘The Old Man and the Three,’ Redick discussed the MVP race, praising DeMar DeRozan’s displays with the Chicago Bulls while stating that Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are the biggest favorites to take the award home next year.
Moreover, he wondered if the fans were overlooking Giannis, which is still playing great basketball and dominating rivals on a nightly basis (6:52).
“I kinda like this Giannis play, man. Giannis, I looked up his numbers today, he had 47 [against the Lakers]. He’s not being talked about. He’s having as good a season as he’s ever had.”
Still, Redick admitted it’s still too early to discard Giannis, so in 35 or 50 more games, we will have a clearer picture of who is the favorite to win the 2022 MVP award.
“I’d say let’s give it another 35 or 50 games before we start having a serious discussion. But in the first 14 or 15 games, let’s acknowledge that DeMar DeRozan is worthy of a top-five MVP discussion.”
Then, Alter asked Redick if the Bucks are having a ‘post-Finals hangover,’ which JJ quickly dismissed, saying that Giannis is still trying to annihilate rivals even after winning his first championship.
“There’s definitely not a post-finals hangover with Giannis, cos that motherf**ker is out for blood every night.”
As he’s stated before, Giannis is constantly looking for new challenges. He already proved he can win last year, but that’s not enough for the 2x NBA MVP. The Eastern Conference is stacked right now, which will make things harder for Milwaukee in their quest to defend the NBA championship.

Antetokounmpo has gotten things back on track, becoming the most recent Eastern Conference Player of the Week after posting 33.3 PPG, 16.0 RPG, 5.0 APG and 2.7 BPG. It’s true that Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant lead the MVP race, but don’t sleep on the man that won the award twice in a row before Nikola Jokic took it last season.
