Jim Boylen Says The Lakers Should Bench Russell Westbrook: “What About Coming Off The Bench And Playing Against A Backup?”

Russell Westbrook is, once again, getting a lot of criticism for his performances with the Los Angeles Lakers. The veteran point guard landed in Los Angeles to create a Big 3 alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

So far, the team has struggled to find its touch, having a negative record due to concerning losses against seemingly weaker rivals. The purple and gold know they must change something if they want to win the championship next year.

Meanwhile, all eyes are on Russell Westbrook, the team’s new addition who’s failed to deliver. Yes, the last two games with the team were good, but Brodie is yet to have a good match while LeBron James is on the court, which will happen most of the season.

Everybody around the league started thinking of ideas to make this work, and some came up with crazy experiments. For instance, former Chicago Bulls head coach Jim Boylen proposed a curious solution for Brodie to have time on the court without creating issues on the team.

“What about maybe coming off the bench and playing against a backup, making other guys better?” Boylen said of Westbrook. “He’s a willing passer. He tries to make people better. He plays full bore, which we respect. He’s tough as nails, but his decisions need to improve.”

After two tumultuous seasons in Houston and Washington, Russ is now in SoCal trying to reach his second NBA Finals and first championship. The 2017 NBA MVP is trying so hard to win that elusive championship and this start to the season doesn’t look promising. This isn’t the first time we hear this idea, though. Skip Bayless also said Russ needs to become the Manu Ginobili of these Lakers.

Still, that’s how Westbrook has started his past seasons, so Lakers fans are still hopeful to see him at his best level. The Lakers are 2-3 now, with Brodie averaging 17.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 9.4 assists per game this season.

Hopefully, Frank Vogel and co. will figure things out and this team will play like legit contenders. Otherwise, they could use Boylen’s advice and see how that goes for Westbrook.
