LeBron James Enjoying The Memes About The Lakers’ Older Roster: “Some Of The Jokes And Memes Have Been Extremely Funny”

3 Min Read

The Los Angeles Lakers roster has been the subject of a lot of debate over the last few months. Compared to last year, their roster is almost entirely different, with only LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Talen Horton-Tucker keeping their spots from last season.

After a disastrous 2020-21 season, where the Lakers failed to get past the 1st round of the playoffs, the Lakers decided to completely revamp the roster, getting rid of almost every player they have to bring in new faces.

The biggest move for the Lakers was without a doubt trading for Russell Westbrook. The Lakers sent the Wizards Kyle Kuzma, KCP, and Montrezl Harrell to bring the former MVP to the franchise.

On top of that, the Lakers brought back former stars like Dwight Howard, Rajon Rondo, Kent Bazemore, Trevor Ariza, and Wayne Ellington. Along with returning stars, the Lakers signed veterans like DeAndre Jordan and Carmelo Anthony for squad depth, along with Malik Monk and Kendrick Nunn.

Their older roster has been the target for several memes across social media. NBA fans have had a field day when it comes to the Lakers’ new roster and made fun of how many of the players are past their prime.

Most recently, the Lakers’ roster assembled for their first picture together, which fans mercilessly trolled for being ‘7 years too late’.

But LeBron James has not taken offense to these memes. In fact, he has been enjoying them significantly. During the Lakers’ media day, LeBron James spoke about the jokes the internet has been making about the Lakers’ aging roster, noting that he has been laughing at a lot of them.

“The narrative about our age, I kind of laugh at it… I actually really do laugh at it, I’m not just saying that… Some of the jokes and memes have been extremely funny”

The Lakers have one of the oldest teams in NBA history, with only 4 players being below the age of 30 on the roster. Some fans have questioned how this over-reliance on veterans will cost the Lakers, especially during the post-season.

But LeBron shut down those concerns, especially speaking about how happy he was with the team. He noted that the team has the right energy, and all that is needed is the hard work to win another NBA championship.
