A couple of weeks ago, it seemed like the MVP race was going to be one for the ages. People went back and forth between Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, Stephen Curry, and LeBron James; with James and Embiid like the two most likely candidates.
Well, as you may know by now, things can change pretty quickly around the NBA, and the MVP race isn’t the exception to that rule. Now, given how much the Lakers have struggled without Anthony Davis and how dominant Embiid has continued to be, it seems like the Sixers’ star is leading the race.
Or at least, that’s what Fox Sports’ Chris Broussard seems to think, as he recently claimed that LeBron has lost the lead and the award is Embiid’s to lose as of now:
“As far as MVP race, LeBron has lost his lead. I said on these airwaves last week: this stretch without AD LeBron would either increase his lead and get a sizeable advantage in MVP race or he would come back to the pack. And he’s come back to the pack clearly. This doesn’t mean his case is over. There are 40 games left. A lot is to happen not only with the Lakers but with other teams, other guys that are in this MVP hunt. So no, his case is not over but he no longer has the lead. If I had to vote today, it would be Joel Embiid,” Broussard said on Undisputed.

It’s been a long time since a big man last won the MVP award, and Embiid winning it would be just poetic justice against those who claim that the position is dead.
Right now, it’s difficult to think that any other player could snatch away the award from the African superstar, but as Broussard said, there are still 40 games left.
