Damian Lillard Thinks He Is An MVP Candidate: “I’m One Of The Best Players In This League.”

Damian Lillard is widely considered to be one of the best point guards in the NBA. Lillard is an elite jump shooter who can fire from deep beyond the arc. Damian Lillard has always been good, but this year, Lillard has had to take on more offensive load due to CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic being out with injury. Damian Lillard has led his team to the 5th seed in the Western Conference, with a 16-10 record.

Damian Lillard’s increased offensive load means that his personal numbers have been stellar: Lillard is currently averaging 29.2 PPG and 7.3 APG. Those are the numbers of an MVP caliber player.

I think it probably is, I mean, the best players win MVP. I think what you see is those players have a heavy load but they take a lot of responsibility in the wins and losses for their team. They’re the players that are showing up night after night, on the games on TV and not on the TV.

Obviously without CJ I’m going to have more responsibility. Without Nurk it’s going to be more responsibilities… A lot of things you have to be aware of, and you gotta take action when you recognize it that can impact your team winning.

I think that’s what you see in MVPs. Obviously, you know I see myself at the top of this league. I’m one of the best players in this league and I feel like I’m on that level.

It is true that Damian Lillard is one of the best leaders in the NBA, and someone who is willing to do anything for his team to win. Lillard is having an elite statistical season, but the Trail Blazers are only the 5th seed: if Lillard wants to win MVP, the Trail Blazers will have to climb the rankings to a top seed.

Damian Lillard should most certainly be in the conversation to win the MVP award. Damian Lillard consistently performs for the Trail Blazers, and that should be recognized.
