Rajon Rondo was a big part of the Boston Celtics during their incredible 2008 Championship run. The point guard was the right piece for Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, bringing a title to Boston 12 years ago. Rondo was a big name in Boston and even after his departure, he was still beloved in the city.

However, he made a drastic decision when he decided to join the Los Angeles Lakers, doing something bold for a player with so much history with the Celtics. Rondo’s move paid off a couple of months ago when he won a title with the purple and gold. The point guard demonstrated that he can win and contribute to a winning team.

Everybody wanted to know about what went through Rondo’s mind before taking his talents to Los Angeles and the answer was pretty simple: the Lakers put money on the table. During a recent appearance on Showtime’s “All The Smoke” podcast, Rondo was asked about his decision to join the Lakers.

Matt Barnes: You ever think you would be a Laker?

Rondo: I’ve never thought about being a Laker but at the time I had two teams, I think it may have been New Orleans at the time. ‘You went to the Lakers?’ Yeah, they offered me some money. The league wants to take me out of here, what do you want me to do?

Rondo had a very good and funny explanation for his decision. Flash forward we know that he made the right one, as he’s now a 2x NBA champion.
