LeBron James Named AP Male Athlete Of The Year For The Fourth Time, Tying For The Most Wins With Tiger Woods And Lance Armstrong

2 Min Read

LeBron James has won the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year award for the fourth time. The award is for his impact and achievements both in and outside the game of basketball.

LeBron has won the award 4 times as well as being named the AP’s male athlete of the past decade. The King ties Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods for the most wins of the award by a man.

The renowned news organization which most recently was a trusted source in calling the 2020 general election, cited James’ commitment to social justice, voter outreach campaign work, and his I Promise School. When the Coronavirus pandemic shut down the school LeBron opened, he made sure that his 450+ students received hot meals delivered to their homes.

In addition to making an impact off the court, James was the focal point of the Los Angeles Lakers’ run to the NBA Finals and eventual win over the Miami Heat. Despite playing well into the year whereas other teams have been resting since March, the Lakers are still favorites to win an NBA Championship again.

The only other NBA player who has earned the AP’s honor multiple times outside of Michael Jordan, a three-time winner. The vote was very close between James and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, beating Mahomes 78 votes to 71.

It will be interesting to see what LeBron will do in the upcoming year, both in the playoffs with his Lakers squad and off the court fixing injustice and providing for those in need.
