Giannis Antetokounmpo killed the narrative that he would join a team in a bigger market. The Greek player decided to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks, signing the largest contract in NBA history ($228 million) and making it clear that he won’t be ring chasing hopping from team to team.
During his “Highly Questionable Show,” Bomani Jones found himself explaining why Giannis re-signing with the Bucks could start a new trend of players staying in small-market teams, just like the back-to-back NBA MVP. Jones explained that more than a small market vs. big market debate, the conversation was about what players want in the cities where they’re going to live.
“Let’s start being honest about this – you’re not talking about small markets vs large markets, you’re talking about places where people don’t really want to live that bad vs places people do. The size of the market does not matter.”
This is very interesting knowing that Giannis was subject to rumors suggesting he was leaving Milwaukee for a bigger market, but back in September Nick Young claimed Giannis was gone simply for the fact that he wouldn’t want to raise his kid in Milwaukee.

Well, Giannis has explained that he wanted to show his commitment with the team this offseason, among other factors that led him to re-sign for five years. The Greek Freak has been the face and soul of this franchise and that won’t change at least until 2025.
Antetokounmpo is one of the best players in the league and it’s unclear if his decision will have a big impact on the rest of the league but according to Bomani, that will depend on the place where certain players live or want to live.
