Minnesota Timberwolves Draft Anthony Edwards With The 1st Overall Pick

Well, it seems like there aren’t many surprises here. As expected, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Anthony Edwards out of the University of Georgia with the 1st overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft.

Edwards will now join D’Angelo Russell and form one of the most electrifying, promising, and dynamic backcourts in the league, as both of them can play on and off the ball, create for others, and – of course – score in bunches.

There was some buzz about the Timberwolves potentially looking to move their 1st overall pick for a bona fide player that could help D’Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns get over the hump, but in the end, the front office made the right call.

While there’s no such thing as a ‘can’t-miss’ kind of talent in this year’s NBA Draft, Anthony Edwards is the closest thing to it. He’s a safe bet in terms of athleticism and upside and has shown the determination to improve every aspect of his game.

Edwards is a gifted athlete who’s drawn comparisons to Donovan Mitchell because of his explosiveness and to Dwyane Wade because of his speed and defensive instincts, although he still needs to put some work in his fundamentals to be considered a two-way player.

Moreover, the freshman out of the University of Georgia has an absurd bucket-getting ability. He can score efficiently from all three levels and has an NBA-ready body with some great core strength.

It’s not a secret that Edwards still needs to improve his shot selection but at least, he’ll have plenty of opportunities to grow through his mistakes on a team like Minnesota.

Now, the Minnesota Timberwolves have found the last piece they needed for their promising project, and while they’re still far from becoming a Championship contender, they made the first step tonight, that’s for sure.
