Basketball fans tend to hype players and teams like no other, especially when it comes to prospects that are ready to take the NBA by storm after a great season in the NCAA.
That overhype was at an all-time hype during the 2014-15 NCAAB season, as John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats looked poised to finish the season undefeated and were one of the most star-studded teams in the history of college basketball.
As a matter of fact, that class featured many future NBA players like Aaron Harrison, Karl-Anthony Towns, Devin Booker, Andrew Harison, Trey Lyles, Dakari Johnson, Willie Cauley-Stein, Tyler Ulis, and Alex Poythress, meaning more than half of them made it to the pros.
That’s why, back in the day, a fan asked the most disrespectful question in basketball history: Could the Kentucky Wildcats beat the 72-10 Chicago Bulls? Well, maybe if they played vs. the Bulls with their current ages.
I mean, the Wildcats couldn’t even beat Wisconsin in the semifinals, so how on earth would they be able to get past Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman? It’s likely that they wouldn’t even let them score 20 points in the whole game.
The University of Kentucky has dominated the Draft lately and they always feature top-tier recruits only, so it’s not a surprise to see them putting together All-Star kinds of rosters for NCAA standards.
But, as we’ve seen countless times, one thing is dominating in college and a totally different thing is doing it in the NBA. I just can’t stretch enough just how much of a beating the Chicago Bulls would’ve given the Wildcats.
In all honesty, not even the worst team in the history of the NBA could’ve lost a single quarter vs. a solid college team, let alone a game. I hope Michael Jordan never sees this.
