Billy Donovan On How He’ll Improve The Bulls: “I Will Hear From The Players On How They Want To Be Used”

The hopes are high in the Windy City now that the Chicago Bulls have appointed the former University of Florida and Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan as their new coach.

Donovan is a team-first and a player’s coach kind of guy, which represents a much-needed turnaround from the infamous Jimmy Bolyen tenure in the United Center, and he made it quite clear in his first press conference as the new coach:

“First thing I’ll do is watch a lot of film… hear from them (players) on how they want to be used. How do they feel they’re most effective? How can you take advantage of their skillset in the offense? Then you build out how you want to play,” Donovan said, as quoted by the Chicago Bulls.

Zach LaVine was ecstatic to hear the news of Donovan’s appointment as coach. He clearly didn’t like Boylen’s way and there were even some rumors claiming that he could force his way out of the team if they didn’t fire their former coach.

Now, Donovan and Arturas Karnisovas will focus on developing their young, promising core of Coby White, Zach LaVine, Wendell Carter Jr, Lauri Markkanen, and the fourth overall pick in this year’s Draft. They also have some cap space available.

Hopefully, Donovan will take a historical franchise like the Chicago Bulls back to the top after years of struggles. For now, the future seems quite bright for them, and God knows that their fans deserve better.
