NBA Rumors: 3 Superteams That Could Happen Next Season

Contrary to popular belief, LeBron James didn’t invent superteams. They have always been around. We will start the list with Wilt Chamberlain and Gail Goodrich (1970), Lew Alcindor and Oscar Robertson (1970), Julius Erving and Moses Malone (1982), Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley and Clyde Drexler (1996), Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo (2008), Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh (2010) and finish with the Golden State Warriors with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant (2016).

  • Los Angeles Lakers
    • Anthony Davis, LeBron James, Zach LaVine
  • Golden State Warriors
    • Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson

NBA players have been forming super teams since the beginning of time. That’s why in the 2019-2020 NBA season the league had a balance it hadn’t seen in quite some time.

Not Big 3’s but dynamic duos.

The Lakers have Anthony Davis and LeBron, Clippers have Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, The Nets have Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, Bucks have Giannis Antentokoumpo and Khris Middleton. That being said, history always repeats itself, so don’t be surprised in the upcoming 2020-21 NBA Season when these 3 superteams emerge.

Brooklyn Nets

Everyone knows that the Brooklyn Nets have their eyes set on acquiring Bradley Beal, who would be a perfect addition next to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. He’s a complete guard who can score at all 3 levels and can also spot up and shoot and play defense.

For as ability goes, the only player that is a better shooting guard than Bradley Beal, is James Harden. With Kyrie Irving’s ability to put the ball on the floor and collapse the defense, Beal will have tons of opportunities to get easy points.

Beal also makes a lot of sense for the Nets because of his ability to handle the ball which will allow Kyrie to play off the ball at times similar to his Cleveland Cavalier days.

Los Angeles Lakers

Anthony Davis, LeBron James, Zach LaVine

The Lakers are known for creating superteams, so it will come as no surprise if they go full throttle in trying to acquire Zach LaVine. He will be the perfect addition next to LeBron and Davis due to his elite scoring ability. With the Bulls organization in a full rebuild, a new front office, and chemistry issues between the players and Head Coach Jim Boylen, Zach LaVine’s name will constantly be in trade rumors.

LeBron has always been a willing passer, but adding a player of Zach’s caliber would make things easier for LeBron as he gets older in his career. The Lakers will get another offensive weapon to pair with the best duo in the NBA, and also get a building block for the future with a core of Davis and LaVine for a post-LeBron career.

If the Lakers want to maximize their championship window, adding a player like LaVine is a must.

Golden State Warriors

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson

A lot of things would have to work out for the Warriors to get Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis would have to first turn down the supermax contract from the Milwaukee Bucks.

Who knows what Giannis will do, but that has to be the first step. Secondly, the Warriors must get the No.1 in the upcoming draft.

If the stars’ align, the Warriors would be a perfect landing spot for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Giannis’ biggest strength is his ability to attack the basket from point A to point B. Giannis’ biggest weakness is his shooting ability and being a one-dimensional scorer at times.

Pairing Giannis with the greatest shooting backcourt in NBA history will make it hard for teams to defend the Warriors lethal inside-outside combination.

If teams try to double Giannis in halfcourt they’re leaving Steph and Klay open. If teams try to trap Curry out on the perimeter they’re leaving Giannis alone who has an elite slasher ability. Also, Steph and Giannis would be an elite force in the pick and roll game.

If this superteam happens, it has a chance to not only be better than Steph, Klay, and KD Big 3 but possibly be the greatest Big 3 the NBA has ever seen.
