Kendrick Perkins: “We All Know KD Was The Best Player On Golden State But Golden State Will Always Be Steph Curry Team”

Kevin Durant’s stories during his days with the Golden State Warriors have resurfaced now after Ethan Strauss published his book, “The Victory Machine: The Making and Unmaking of the Warriors Dynasty”. KD starred in more than one controversy during his time with the Dubs, and Strauss revealed more details about the things that happened behind the scenes in the Bay.

Strauss describes in the book that KD was anything but happy with the attention and affection Stephen Curry had, even saying the media and fans were “kissing Steph’s ass” at his expense.

Kendrick Perkins, a former teammate of Durant in Oklahoma City, joined ESPN’s The Jump to discuss all the things said in Strauss’ book, sending a message to KD and breaking down how things went for him before and during his arrival in Golden State.

Well all know KD was the best player on Golden State but Golden State Will Always Be Steph Curry Team!!! It was his team before he got there and will be his team until he retires. 🤷🏾‍♂️ https://t.co/pCqLanIF0F

“Kevin, my brother, I’m begging you. Please stop responding to the media,” Perkins said. “When you talk about Steph Curry and KD and Steph getting all the praise, of course he’s gonna get all the praise. Steph was back-to-back MVP before KD got there. KD knew that he was getting himself into when he joined the 73-9 team, he knew he was the best player of the team, but that was Steph’s team from the jump. It’s always gonna be Steph Curry’s team. And yes Steph do get a lot of praise. KD you were the guy who was getting the backlash in the media when you didn’t perform well, but at the end of the day you went to Golden State, you helped them win two championships, you won two Finals MVPs and now you’re out to your next journey. Just let it go; it’s forever gon’ be Steph Curry’s team with the Golden State Warriors, so it is what it is.”

Perk knows nothing will ever change that. The Warriors are always going to be Curry’s team, no matter who arrives and the things they can do for the team. KD went there, did his job, won that longed-for ring, two Finals MVPs and that was it.

Now he’s part of the Brooklyn Nets, trying to demonstrate he can actually lead a team to the promised land without the help of Curry, Klay Thompson or Draymond Green. KD is currently sidelined after suffering an ACL injury during the 2019 NBA Finals. Once he returns, we’ll see what he will bring to the table and how far he can take the Nets in the East.
