NBA Rumors: Knicks Want Christian Wood And Chris Paul

3 Min Read

The NBA may be on an indefinite hiatus, but the New York Knicks are still plotting and scheming their next move.

While this season is doomed to end in failure, this summer (or whenever the offseason arrives) gives the Knicks another chance to remake their roster. According to Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report, they could seriously look at acquiring CP3 to bring order to a historically chaotic franchise.

“Paul proved to be a culture-setter while producing like a top-10 player for the Thunder this season. And no one is in need of a culture reset quite like the New York Knicks. Get Paul around youngsters RJ Barrett, Kevin Knox or whoever else might be left after the trade. Let them see how he works. Let him set them up for easier looks than they’ve seen. Let CP3 run this show for the last two years of this deal. See if he can legitimize the Knicks, an organization that has struggled immensely over the last 20 years.”

The Knicks have also expressed interest in Christian Wood, according to SportsNet New York.

While it’s way too early to know who they’ll target, it’s worth noting that some in the Knicks’ front office are enamored with Detroit’s Christian Wood.

Wood was in the midst of a career season when the league suspended play due to the coronavirus crisis. The Pistons big man moved to the starting lineup after the Andre Drummond trade and averaged 23 points, 10 rebounds, and shot 40 percent from beyond the arc as a starter.

It’s clear that the Knicks have been doing their homework, but will it be enough to finally turn things around?

With a core of Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, and Kevin Knox, things could certainly be worse. But without a coach to lead them and no clear identity, it’s hard to envision what their team might look like next season even if they do sign both of their targeted players.

The only direction for them to go, at this point, it up.
