Ja Morant: “I Don’t Think There Can Be Another LeBron James.”

After 15+ years of watching LeBron James torch the NBA, it’s so easy to take what he is doing for granted.

Somehow, at 35-years-old, he is still one of the most elite players in the game, averaging 25 points, a career-high 10.6 assists, and 7.8 rebounds, on 49.6% shooting. What he is doing this season, and throughout his basketball career, has really been incredible — and not everyone is taking it lightly.

After Saturday’s win against the Lakers, Grizzlies rookie Morant took time to praise LeBron, recognizing the guy as a unique individual both in a basketball sense as well as culturally.

“He’s just one of a kind,” Morant said about the Lakers forward, per Omari Sankofa II of The Athletic. “I don’t think there can be another LeBron. Off the court, just what he’s doing in the community. Impacting different people’s lives. I just seen, he just sent people to school for free. That’s something most people don’t do. Most people don’t have hearts like that. I’m sure everybody has seen after the game at Staples and said whatever I need, on and off the court, just to hit him up. That’s just special right there.”

Morant and James exchanged jerseys after the game, indicating a sign of mutual respect between the two stars.

While Morant hasn’t been in the league long enough to truly understand the scope of James’ abilities, he has seen enough to know how rare it is. One day Ja hopes to hear that same description about his own game, and (at his current pace) it is certainly possible that he will.

Perhaps he should start taking notes from Bron himself to get there.
