David Griffin Says Zion Williamson Gained 8 Pounds Of Muscle In 1 Week Of 2019 Offseason

2 Min Read

After so much hype surrounding Duke phenom Zion Williamson, the NBA was saddened to learn he’d miss months of this season with a torn meniscus.

With his return now imminent, nobody is sure what to expect from the rookie star.

But if we are to listen to the words of Pelicans Vice-President David Griffin, we should expect good things.

(per ESPN’s Baxter Holmes)

Then Griffin shares another story about Williamson — how the Pelicans engaged in a teamwide heavy weightlifting routine for just one week during the offseason. Williamson gained eight pounds of muscle during that span, a degree of weight gain that shocked staffers.

“He’s not normal,” Griffin said “So finding stasis with Zion is the challenge, because he’s 19 years old. He’s still growing. It’s not going to be about a number. It’s going to be about metrics of flexibility and strength and control and all of the different things that we can measure that really are outside of weight.”

Since even before he was drafted, Zion was hailed as the next great NBA superstar. And while we have yet to see his abilities in the professional scene, there’s no reason to doubt he can still be the guy he was hyped up to be.

Griffin is one who not only recognizes Zion’s extraordinary physicality, but also his incredible work ethic.

No doubt, the world will be holding its breath on the day of his much anticipated return.
