Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain is hoping to break into the team’s rotation as a rookie. He has gotten plenty of chances during preseason where he’s impressed many but suffered a setback. McCain fell hard while driving to the rim during their 117-95 win over the Brooklyn Nets, with head coach Nick Nurse revealing post-game to media members that McCain had to be taken to the hospital.

The worry for everyone right now is that McCain possibly suffered a concussion, which would lead to him missing the opening night of the NBA regular season due to concussion protocols. He had a solid game against the Nets, putting up nine points and seven rebounds (3-6 3PT) before he had to check out of the game.

76ers head coach Nick Nurse elaborated on McCain’s condition and his thoughts on what went down after the game.

“No, it was rough. You got the report, he’s going to the hospital to get checked out. Obviously, he was having some trouble breathing there, maybe he got the wind knocked out of him, but not sure what was going on there. Never quite seen one like that before. We hope he’s okay and will see what the report is like from the hospital.”

In four preseason games, the rookie has averaged 12.3 points, proving to be a valuable player but one who has to undergo a lot more seasoning before he can be ready for consistent NBA minutes.

The 76ers have had an injury problem in preseason, with new signing Paul George suffering a hyperextended knee that will also keep him out for a short while. Joel Embiid has also been ruled out of the preseason, with the 76ers planning on load-managing the former MVP the entire season.

McCain has an opportunity to contribute behind the likes of Tyrese Maxey, so we’ll hope he’s healthy after the injury he suffered in the game against the Nets.
