With weeks to go before the start of the 2024-25 NBA season, Bronny James is ready to put his best foot forward. In a recent chat with Men’s Health, the Lakers rookie opened up his path to the league and even looked back on his life in NBA royalty.

“Growing up, I didn’t really understand why. Everything was going on,” said Bronny. “I wasn’t really paying attention to everything, so it was a surprise to me, but not really, because I knew it was happening, but I didn’t know it was going to flood over me like that.”

LeBron James was a star right out of the gate and from his senior year of High School, he’s had a massive spotlight following his every move. Bronny grew up with this pressure and now he’s getting a taste of the other side of it after 19 years.

This season, Bronny and his dad are set to make history as the only active father/son duo in NBA history and they will be the star of the show for the Lakers. But as a rookie, expectations are being kept low for the young point guard and he intends to work hard to maximize the opportunity.

“It has been cool seeing Dad locked in for so long,” said James. “It helps me to go in there and lock in and not waste any time, because you never know, especially with me. I got a situation I’m going through. I never know, so just making sure I don’t waste any time.”

With the ultimate discipline, work ethic, and dedication, LeBron James is the perfect example for Bronny to follow. Whether it’s in the G-League or off the bench for the Lakers, James Jr. will surely be working hard to improve his craft and maximize his NBA potential.

Of course, the process will take time, and James knows more than anyone how important it is not to rush the process. If he can just learn from his teammates and pick up knowledge where he can, it should be enough for him to see some major improvements.

“The game hasn’t slowed down for me on this level yet,” James said. “But I want to learn everything I can, even if it takes time. So I’m going into every practice with open ears and an open mind.”

Statistically, Bronny hasn’t had the best start to his basketball career. He averaged just 4.8 points per game in college and has scored just two points over the first three preseason games this year. But from the testimonies of LeBron, Rob Pelinka, and Anthony Davis, Bronny has earned his place and he has earned a chance to prove himself in the NBA.

This year will be Bronny’s biggest test of all and it won’t be long before we find out where he’s at in the development process. With so much support, the kid has everything he needs to succeed in his goals but the hard work has only just begun.
