Dejounte Murray met up with a New Orleans legend, as he linked up with Lil Wayne recently. He took a picture with Weezy, and gave him a Pelicans jersey with Murray’s name on the back of it. Wayne, who is a massive Pelicans fan, looked thrilled to be interacting with their newest young star.

Dejounte Murray was recently traded to the Pelicans by the Hawks in exchange for Larry Nance Jr. and Dyson Daniels. This came after his pairing with Trae Young failed to yield the results the Hawks would. Trae Young spoke recently and tried to explain why his pairing with Murray failed to work out.
Regardless of the reason, Murray was moved from the Hawks. His move to the Pelicans could work quite well for them, as the roster now has four former All-Stars in the starting lineup, and could surprise the rest of the Western Conference as a dark horse team.
Murray will have to learn to share the ball with CJ McCollum next season, but that shouldn’t be too difficult, considering that he just played with Trae Young, a historically ball-dominant player. But if the Pelicans are able to make this work, this could make them one of the teams to watch in the Eastern Conference.
Despite having a very talented roster, the Pelicans have always been on the cusp of breaking through. Injuries, underperforming stars, and internal turmoil have always seemed to hold them back in the years since the departure of Anthony Davis, and they have yet to make a mark on the East in their current era.
What Is Going On With The Pelicans?
There are a lot of questions surrounding the future of the Pelicans. Most of this speculation has been focused on Brandon Ingram, whose future with the franchise is uncertain, to say the least. Ingram seemingly hinted at an end to his stint with the Pelicans via a cryptic social media post.
While the departure of Ingram will undoubtedly sting for Pelicans fans, they have reasons to be excited, especially after seeing the recent pictures of Zion Williamson being in the best shape he has been in years.
It was reported that Zion is looking to drop even more weight come the start of the NBA season, which could improve his health and availability next season and make the Pelicans better.
Kendrick Perkins seems to believe that Zion Williamson could transform himself into a Draymond Green-like defender. If he can add that level of defense to his explosive offense, Zion could enter the conversation of the best two-way players in the NBA, as few can bring that level of play on both ends of the court.
The Pelicans are set for an interesting season, regardless of what happens. The franchise looks to be transitioning into a new period, and some familiar faces could be on the move sooner rather than later.
