Michael Wilbon and Brian Windhorst hinted at unhappiness from Kevin Durant with the Suns. On the latest episode of ESPN’s Pardon The Interruption, Wilbon noted that he had heard some negative things about the relationship between Durant and the Suns. Windhorst responded that the Suns are looking to change everything about their team.

Wilbon: “I don’t hear great things about the Suns and Kevin Durant. But your ear is closer to the ground. What do you hear?”

Windhorst: “So the Suns are in the middle of revamping their entire organization. Mike Budenholzer is obviously the new head coach. He’s revamping the entire coaching staff, they’re revamping the front office, they’re revamping the support staff. They’re trying to approach next season with a completely clean slate. They’re going to have to revamp quite a bit of the roster.”

Brian Windhorst added that there is validity when it comes to the rumors of a strained relationship between Durant and the Suns, but doesn’t expect much to come of it. While the rest of the league is keeping a close eye on the developing situation, Windhorst believes that Durant will remain with the Suns for the foreseeable future.

“I do understand why you’re asking me about Kevin Durant. I do think that some of the league is at least keeping a side eye on what’s happening there because this season just didn’t go the way anybody thought. But I do believe, especially with what Durant said at the end of the season, that they want to give this at least another go. I would keep an eye on it, but I would say expect Kevin Durant to be a Sun at least till the start of next season.”

Kevin Durant and the Suns had a disastrous season this year. After acquiring Bradley Beal through a trade, the Suns were one of the favorites to win the NBA championship. Instead, they were swept in the first round by the Timberwolves and disappointed many fans with their less-than-stellar showing.

Durant had good numbers against the Timberwolves, averaging 26.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. But it wasn’t enough to make an impact for the Suns and even let them win a game. The Suns need to rethink a lot about their team ahead of the next season.

Will Kevin Durant Stay With The Suns Next Season?

There has been speculation about Kevin Durant’s future with the Suns. Some have suggested he could be moved if he wants to leave. However, Durant has stayed silent about the same, not contributing to the rumors.

For now, Durant will shift his focus to the 2024 Paris Olympics. He was seen training with Bol Bol and Chet Holmgren recently as he prepares for the summer games. Durant is looking to win his fourth gold medal with Team USA, which would make him the most successful male basketball player in Team USA history.

It is unlikely that the Suns will move Durant ahead of the new season. The franchise is looking to run it back under the stewardship of new head coach Mike Budenholzer. The Suns will have to build a solid roster around their big three to stand a chance of contending in the stacked Western Conference. But with their limited salary cap space, the front office faces a daunting recruitment task this offseason.
