Anthony Edwards Admits There Was Finger-Pointing In Timberwolves Locker Room; Coaches Shifted The Energy At Right Time

Anthony Edwards reveals how the Timberwolves coaches helped the players believe in themselves again after they started pointing fingers at each other.

The Minnesota Timberwolves entered Game 6 of their second-round series with the Denver Nuggets on the back of three straight losses. Their backs were firmly against the walls and Anthony Edwards admitted there was some finger-pointing going on, but the coaches helped shift the energy before Thursday’s contest.

“I think the last three games we was all down on ourselves,” Edwards said. “Just trying to point the finger, blame somebody. And then I think today before the game, the coaches, the whole staff they did a great job of putting a clip together.

“As far as like the plays that we made (in) the two games that we won against these guys,” Edwards continued. “And everybody started to believe after that little edit that they put together. I can tell the energy shifted after that little edit so that was big time. I told them that was big time putting that edit together.”

(starts at 0:39 mark):

It is understandable that you would get some finger-pointing. The Timberwolves seemed to be at the top of the world after they won those first two games on the road. The Nuggets then brought them back down to earth by going up 3-2 and put them on the brink of elimination.

When the script gets flipped in this manner, the coaches need to step in to bring the group back together, which is what Chris Finch and his staff seem to have done here. Edwards believed that the clip they showed helped the group and boy, did they play well in Game 6.

The Timberwolves handed the Nuggets their worst playoff loss in franchise history by winning 115-70 to tie the series at 3-3. It was Denver’s lowest-scoring game of the season, with the second-lowest also coming in this series, when Minnesota won Game 2 106-80.

The Timberwolves had struggled on defense after Game 2 but finally managed to slow down that high-powered Nuggets offense once again in Game 6. On the other end of the court, Edwards returned to form after a poor showing in Game 5. The two-time All-Star recorded 27 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals in the contest.

The Timberwolves now have the momentum heading into Game 7 and they’d be beaming with confidence. I don’t think there will be any finger-pointing in the Nuggets locker room after this loss but maybe head coach Michael Malone and his staff could show a video of their own to inspire the players.

Anthony Edwards Had Boldly Told A Nuggets Locker Room Attendant That He Would Be Back For Game 7

After Game 5 in Denver, the Timberwolves were being written off, but Edwards was confident he’d be making another trip to Ball Arena soon. As he was leaving the arena, Edwards told a Nuggets staffer that he would be back for Game 7.

“Hell yeah. Y’all were in there. I told them, ‘I’ll see y’all motherf****ers for Game 7.'”

Edwards has always been supremely confident and you would have expected him to say something like that. While I was surprised by how lopsided Game 6 was, I wasn’t surprised that the Timberwolves won. I expected them to step up with their season on the line, which was what they did here.

Now, anything can happen in a Game 7, but I would back the Nuggets to get the win and advance to the Western Conference Finals. While the Timberwolves have won two games in Denver in this series, I don’t think they’ll win a Game 7 there.
