Aries Spears: ‘LeBron James Is In The Top 5 Greatest. I Don’t Give A F**k If Scores 80K Points, He’s Been In The League Since Preschool’

Michael Jordan cemented his status as the GOAT of basketball, but LeBron James‘ career has given it the toughest test it’s seen. Despite James’ incredible longevity, comedian and actor Aries Spears thinks James will never surpass Jordan.

“Let me rant a little bit, don’t cut me off, let me talk. First off to this young generation, you Pedialite drinking, sumac breath having, wet behind the ears young c**ks***ers motherf***ers make me sick. Knock it the f**k off. Is this what we’re doing now? We’re shitting on our legends? It’s actually become trendy and popular to devalue Michael Jordan. To sh*t on Michael Jordan.”

Spears went on to explain the recent social media trend showing fans post ’90s clips and saying Jordan’s level of competition was inferior based on bloopers.

“Now it’s gone beyond that because the trend from TikTok is ‘I’m done with ’80s and ’90s basketball. Y’all n***s are trash.’ What’s happening is that they’re showing clips of Bird, Magic, all the legends, Isiah, and they’re showing these guys basically have sports bloopers. They fumble the ball, turn it over, and they’re saying based on that, these dudes is trash. How incredibly stupid. This is sports, that happens with every era! You’re telling me in today’s era, there is no footage of young players f**ing up? There’s a whole segment dedicated to it from Shaq. It’s called Shaqtin A Fool on Inside the NBA on TNT, so knock that bullsh*t off!”

Spears then discussed the debate for GOAT between LeBron James and Michael Jordan, saying he has no regard for the longevity records James breaks when it compares to Jordan.

“Secondly, let me say this. I understand the young generation wants to feel relevant. They want to feel like their time matters. I get that. Everybody thinks because I say what I want about LeBron James that I don’t like LeBron. For the record, I have the ultimate respect for LeBron. He’s in my top five. Do I think he’s better than Michael? No. I don’t give a f**k if he scored 80,000 points. He’s been in the league since pre-school. The longer you stick around, if you’re as skillful as he is, you’re gonna surpass everybody.”

Spears then decided to share his objective assertions on the debate based on polls that he has seen and comparing Jordan’s cultural impact to LeBron’s.

“But let’s state the facts and I have seen polls on this. People go, ‘Who’s the GOAT?’ Both NBA players and casual fans have all said in all the polls I see that Michael Jordan is the GOAT. We can debate this all day, but here’s the facts. There’s only two athletes people have said are the most popular and impactful athletes of all time. Muhammad Ai and Michael Jordan. As popular as LeBron is, is he globally famous like on the level of Jordan? No. Has he impacted the game at the level of Jordan? No. The players today, the young generation, faster, better, stronger, are they wearing LeBron’s sneakers? No. They’re wearing Jordans. Jordan ain’t played professional; basketball in over 20 years and he’s still the favorite in terms of the standard. So this sh*t is ridiculous.

He finally went off on people, dismissing the level of competition that Jordan had to overcome.

“What’s killing me is that when they say Jordan played against truck drivers, janitors, policeman. Really? Jordan’s competition was Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller, a young Penny Hardaway, Shaquille O’Neal, Grant Hill, Alonzo Mourning, Tim Hardaway, I can go on and on and on. Those guys are plumbers? Those guys are truck drivers? Janitors? Get the f**k out of here.”

Spears clearly is one-sided when it comes to the argument but made some inarguable points. Jordan’s 6-0 Finals record with six Finals MVPs in two different three-peats is a feat we’ll never see repeated in the NBA. The same can be said for his 10-scoring titles as well. In his time in the NBA, Jordan was the single most dominant player the league had seen and there’s no disputing that.

LeBron may never be the true holder of the No. 1 title, as Jordan’s achievements are just too incredible to equal. However, James has carved his own niche with his incredible longevity. Spears seemed to dismiss James’ all-time scoring record and his longevity, but it shouldn’t be ignored that his performances in Year 21 are history-making at a level we have never seen before.

James may retire with the greatest career of all time, but to unanimously claim the title of the GOAT of the sport will be near impossible with the Jordan-sized shadow that hangs over any potential GOAT talent in the sport.
