Damian Lillard finally decided to leave the Portland Trail Blazers this past offseason and landed with the Milwaukee Bucks. While Lillard is thrilled to play alongside an all-time great like Giannis Antetokounmpo, he admits he does feel lonely in Milwaukee when asked what his life is like in the city.

“Bro, go to practice, go home, watch boxing, play video games,” Lillard told Sports Illustrated. “Man, I type in [boxing website] FightHype on YouTube 100 times and be praying for something new to be on there. Seriously, I don’t have much of a life. But that’s what comes with making a big boy decision. You got to be down for that and figure it out.”

Lillard says his life was set in Portland. His mother and sister lived down the street from him, while his brother was the other way down the street. His son went to school in the area and his whole family would meet him after every home game.

Lillard’s best friends are based in Portland as well, and he could go out with them whenever he wanted to when he was with the Trail Blazers. With neither his family nor friends following him to Milwaukee, life has changed drastically for the 33-year-old.

Lillard said he is very much a family man so he does feel lonely without them by his side, but added he is still doing fine as he is a grown-up. As time goes by, you feel he will get more and more comfortable.

Lillard played for the Trail Blazers for 11 seasons and the first year or so in a new locale after such a long stay in one place is always a bit rough. Especially so, if your loved ones are not with you.

Damian Lillard Is Also Going Through A Divorce

As if all that I just mentioned earlier was not enough, a lot is going on in his personal life as well. Lillard stated he is going through a divorce, which is affecting him a lot.

“As people we all know, you got to go home to your own stuff, everybody that can watch our games they go to their personal stuff, and it plays a part in how you do your job and how your every day goes,” said Lillard, via Yahoo Sports. “As much as I love basketball, and I love my job, I don’t care about it more than I care about my kids. Of course you carry it with you,” Lillard said. “People say, ‘When I hoop I ain’t thinking about nothing,’ but I’m not 21. I got three kids. I’m tight with my family and I’m going through a divorce.”

Lillard filed for divorce from Kay’La Lillard just days after he was traded to the Bucks. They were high school sweethearts who got married in 2021, but their relationship fell apart at some point afterward.

With all of this going through his head, Lillard hasn’t quite delivered in Milwaukee as he was expected to. The eight-time All-Star is averaging 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game for the Bucks, but hasn’t had the impact that many envisioned he would.

Milwaukee has had an up-and-down season as a result, with Adrian Griffin getting fired and he was replaced by Doc Rivers. After a rough 3-7 start under Rivers, the Bucks have now won three in a row after the All-Star break, and it will be interesting to see if they can carry on and have a strong finish to the season.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
