The New York Knicks have continued to make moves, first acquiring two-way swingman OG Anunoby to pair with stars Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle. They also found a way to get rid of RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, two players who will eventually earn major dollars. Instead, the Knicks can just pay Anunoby, who is an elite defender who led the NBA in steals last year (1.9 SPG). At the trade deadline, the Knicks made another impressive move.

They traded for two-way swingman Bojan Bogdanovic, a veteran who can shoot the ball well and compete on defense. Bogdanovic is posting 20.2 points per game on 41.5% from three for the lowly Pistons. In the same deal that sent Evan Fournier, Quentin Grimes, and other negligible assets to Detroit, the Knicks brought in Alec Burks who is shooting 40.1% from three this season and averaging 12.6 points per game.

With some major moves around their core players, the Knicks might be the scariest team in the East right now, right beside the Boston Celtics. New York has five major aspects of the team right now going for them and don’t be surprised if we see the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals in the postseason.

1. Elite Star Power

The New York Knicks boast an impressive duo of All-Stars in Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle, with Brunson notably shining as a breakout star this season, making a strong case that he should have been an All-Star starter. Brunson is posting an impressive 27.2 points and 6.5 assists per game this season, on 41.1% from three so he is due for his first All-NBA Team selection at the end of the year. Meanwhile, Randle is posting 24.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while making his third All-Star selection.

Brunson and Randle’s combined prowess on both ends of the court has been instrumental in revitalizing the Knicks’ performance in the Eastern Conference. Brunson and Randle not only excel individually in scoring but also exhibit strong teamwork, elevating the team’s overall play. Additionally, the acquisition of OG Anunoby adds another dimension to their star power. While not yet reaching All-Star status, Anunoby’s defensive prowess and reliable shooting contribute significantly to the team’s overall strength.

With this trio of talented players, the Knicks possess the offensive firepower and defensive solidity necessary to compete against the top teams in the East, making them a formidable force to reckon with post-deadline.

2. An Impressive Depth Chart

The New York Knicks have significantly bolstered their depth chart with notable acquisitions at the trade deadline, enhancing their roster’s versatility and resilience. Bojan Bogdanovic brings a lethal scoring touch and invaluable playoff experience, providing the Knicks with a reliable offensive threat capable of stretching defenses with his shooting prowess (41.5% 3-PT FG). Alec Burks, known for his scoring, adds another dimension to the Knicks’ backcourt, offering scoring punch off the bench and invaluable veteran leadership at 32 years old.

Josh Hart (7.5 PPG, 7.0 RPG) injects a dose of energy and tenacity into the team’s defensive efforts, with his relentless hustle and knack for making game-changing plays on both ends of the floor. Isaiah Hartenstein’s imposing presence in the paint provides the Knicks with rim protection and rebounding prowess, fortifying their interior defense and adding depth to their frontcourt rotation.

Miles McBride and Donte DiVincenzo, two promising young guards, inject youth and athleticism into the Knicks’ backcourt rotation, offering depth and versatility in the guard positions. McBride’s defensive tenacity and playmaking instincts make him a valuable asset on both ends of the floor, while DiVincenzo’s combination of scoring ability and defensive intensity adds another dimension to the team’s perimeter play. DiVincenzo has been on fire in the month of February, posting 26, 32, and 36 points respectively over his last three games.

With this array of talent added to their depth chart, the Knicks are poised to make a strong push in the Eastern Conference, equipped with the depth and versatility necessary to compete against any opponent this season. Even Mitchell Robinson (likely out for the season with an injury) further strengthens the team’s defensive anchor, as his shot-blocking prowess and ability to finish lobs around the rim add a dynamic element to their lineup once he returns next season.

3. Abundance Of Shooting

The New York Knicks have assembled an arsenal of sharpshooters that can rain down threes from all angles. Jalen Brunson (41.1%) and OG Anunoby (39.1%) headline this lineup with their ability to stretch the floor and knock down shots with precision. Brunson’s smooth stroke and quick release make him a constant threat from beyond the arc, while Julius Randle’s improved three-point shooting adds another dimension to his versatile offensive game. Anunoby’s ability to shoot the ball at a high level, coupled with his defensive prowess, makes him a valuable asset on both ends of the floor.

The additions of Bojan Bogdanovic (41.5%), Alec Burks (40.1%), Donte DiVincenzo, and Miles McBride further bolster the Knicks’ shooting prowess, providing depth and scoring punch off the bench. Bogdanovic’s sniper-like accuracy from long-range forces defenders to respect his shot, opening up driving lanes and creating spacing for his teammates. Burks’ knack for hitting timely threes in clutch situations adds a valuable dimension to the Knicks’ offensive arsenal, while DiVincenzo (41.7%) and McBride (44.0%) bring youthful energy and scoring ability to the team’s backcourt rotation.

With such a wealth of shooting talent at their disposal, the Knicks have the firepower to light up the scoreboard and keep pace with any team in the league, including title contenders such as the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics.

4. Intimidating Defensive Schemes

The New York Knicks are a defensive juggernaut, ranking second in the league in defense (109.4 OPPG), a testament to the expertise of their head coach, Tom Thibodeau, renowned for his defensive acumen. Anchored by stalwarts like OG Anunoby, who earned All-NBA Defensive Second Team honors last season and led the league in steals, the Knicks possess the tools to stifle opposing offenses. Despite the absence of Mitchell Robinson due to injury, Isaiah Hartenstein has seamlessly stepped into the fold, showcasing his prowess with impressive rebounding (8.8) and shot-blocking (1.1) numbers while ranking second in the defensive box plus/minus in the NBA (2.4).

Julius Randle’s physicality and versatility allow him to guard multiple positions effectively, adding another layer of defensive prowess to the Knicks’ lineup. Meanwhile, Josh Hart brings relentless energy and tenacity on the defensive end, making life difficult for opposing scorers with his grit and determination. With a roster stocked with athletes and defensive specialists, the Knicks boast the ability to lock down even the most potent offensive threats in the league.

Their defensive schemes are characterized by disciplined rotations, suffocating pressure, and relentless hustle, making it challenging for opponents to find open looks or penetrate the paint. Whether it’s disrupting passing lanes, contesting shots, or crashing the boards with ferocity, the Knicks’ commitment to defense is evident in every possession.

5. A Buzzing Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden, the historic home of the New York Knicks, is once again alive with excitement and anticipation as the team continues its resurgence in the Eastern Conference. With the addition of exciting players to the roster and the emergence of Jalen Brunson as a bonafide superstar this season, the atmosphere at the Garden is electric, with fans rallying behind their team like never before. Brunson’s stellar play has even garnered him MVP chants, a testament to his impact and the fervor of the Knicks faithful.

The Garden has always been renowned as one of the most iconic and intimidating arenas in sports, providing a distinct home-court advantage for the Knicks. The energy and passion of the fans reverberate throughout the arena, creating an atmosphere that can galvanize the team and propel them to victory, especially in crucial playoff matchups. With the Knicks currently sitting at the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, just two games behind the second seed, every game at the Garden becomes even more significant as they jockey for playoff positioning.

As the season progresses and the stakes continue to rise, the buzz surrounding Madison Square Garden will only grow louder, serving as a rallying cry for the team and a daunting challenge for visiting opponents. With the Garden rocking and the Knicks firing on all cylinders, they have the potential to make a deep postseason run and establish themselves as legitimate contenders in the Eastern Conference.
