Speaking on his self-titled podcast, veteran point guard Patrick Beverley reflected on Giannis Antetokounmpo and his infamous post-game rampage against the Indiana Pacers. Giannis was hunting the game ball, as he explained later, and the whole scene turned into total chaos when he sprinted across the floor to track it down. If it were up to Beverley, however, the game ball would have been destroyed for good.

“I would’ve poked a hole in that b*tch,” said Bev. “Beat me? Put 60 on me? Yeah, you can have this ball. Then I thought about it. I would’ve pealed that b*tch like an orange. Pieces of that b*tch… you want it? Here! Or I’ll sign that mf, here you go. They said they wanted to give it to their rookie… then I heard they gave him the wrong ball. NBA is a big a** soap opera and I love this sh*t.”

The scene in Milwaukee was truly unprecedented, and it’s almost a miracle that it didn’t end without more drama. But Giannis better be glad that his Bucks didn’t face the 76ers in that game, or things could have gotten ugly with Beverley on the floor.

Giannis And The “Ballgate” Drama

Tensions were already running high when the Bucks faced the Pacers last Wednesday. After several regular-season meetings, including a Pacers upset win during the in-season tournament, the teams had already grown a disdain for each other and those feelings were palpable throughout the game. By the end of Giannis’ historic night, both sides were at their breaking point and that’s why all hell broke loose over a simple game ball.

While it’s an NBA custom for players to keep the game ball during meaningful or historic games, the ball for that game went missing for Giannis and he took it upon himself to get it back by any means necessary. Love him or hate him, Giannis’ reaction was undoubtedly over the top and players have already been poking fun at the whole ordeal. Funnily enough, despite Giannis’ unhinged reaction, the Pacers never even had the real ball and it turns out that the Bucks picked it up after the game. So, the whole scene was actually for nothing and all it did for Giannis was overshadow his otherwise amazing performance for the Bucks.

Patrick Beverley Is The King Of Pettiness

Patrick Beverley and the 76ers were not involved in the viral scene at Milwaukee and it’s probably for the better. When it comes to exploiting actions that can set people off, Beverley is one of the best in the league. On the court, he’s described as a defensive pest who is always making life tough for the opposition. Due to a reputation for being a “dirty” player, Beverley is the subject of a lot of scrutiny and even had a team ballboy threaten to take his life.

Over his career, Bev has always been the guy willing to get his hands dirty and he’s not afraid to rub shoulders against the best of the best. And while you can say what you want about his game offensively, his impact on the other end cannot be denied. Both physically and mentally, Patrick Beverley is a master of intimidation, and if you think for a second that he would have played nice with Giannis then you misunderstand the most crucial aspect of his game.
