Jimmy Butler Jokingly Says He Will Continue His Day Job After Losing In Scratch-Offs

Jimmy Butler will have to continue toiling as an NBA player after not hitting a big jackpot on scratch-off cards.

Jimmy Butler made a pretty hilarious video of him going through a pile of scratch-off cards in an attempt to get a big jackpot. Unfortunately, Butler didn’t hit on any of the scratch-off cards, expressing his dismay over having to continue working on his day job as a multi-millionaire NBA player.

“Highway robbery. They’re selling us a dream, man. The American Dream. Get rich quick. This is blasphemous, can never get rich man. Just gonna have to work my day job, can’t quit. I just gotta do it.”

“I can’t ever get rich, man. It’s crazy. Just gonna have to work my day job, man.”

Butler’s day job is being one of the starters on the Miami Heat, where he will be paid $45 million this season. He’s trying to be funny and act like he’s still a regular old guy, but the message doesn’t stay funny each time.

I can find the humor in a multi-millionaire athlete going through scratch tickets to try and hit big, but many fans think content like this is out of touch and cringey.

Jimmy Butler’s Slow Start To The Season

Jimmy Butler hasn’t come into the 2023/24 regular season like the playoff competitor we saw lead the eighth-seeded Miami Heat to the Finals. The Heat are 1-2 from their first three games of the season. They picked up a win over the Pistons but ate losses against the Timberwolves and Celtics. They’re trailing by double digits to the Milwaukee Bucks right now, the same team that stole Damian Lillard from the Heat.

Butler averaged 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists through the first three games of the season, resting when the Heat played the Timberwolves and getting called out by fans. He’s had an unimpressive night against the Bucks, putting up 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists. A loss here reduced the Heat to 1-3 to start the season, something that should be of major concern to the front office.

The franchise was forced to have a dull summer of changes, as they waited too long for Damian Lillard to be traded to them. When he joined the Bucks, the trade fallout ultimately led to the Celtics acquiring Jrue Holiday. The Heat saw their chances in the East go from bad to worse. They’re still not expected to make any trades to improve their roster anytime soon, but their hand may be forced by December.

Butler is not going to be a regular-season star, so the Heat must find players to carry the load right now before Butler takes over in the postseason. There is a recipe of success at play here given how they’ve overachieved in three out of the last four seasons. It’ll be extremely challenging to be a title contender as presently constructed, but the Heat can upset any team in the NBA if they just make it into the playoffs.
