  • There have been many great scorers in NBA history that have led a franchise in total points
  • The Brooklyn Nets have the lowest point total by a single player
  • These are the 10 lowest scoring franchise leaders

The NBA has seen many great scorers who have led their teams to great success. Some franchises, however, haven’t seen a single player score that many points.

Contents
  • 10. Giannis Antetokounmpo – 16,280 (Milwaukee Bucks)
  • 9. Walter Davis – 15,666 Points (Phoenix Suns)
  • 8. Elvin Hayes – 15,551 Points (Washington Wizards)
  • 7. DeMar DeRozan – 13,296 Points (Toronto Raptors)
  • 6. Randy Smith – 12,735 Points (Los Angeles Clippers)
  • 5. Kemba Walker – 12,009 Points (Charlotte Hornets)
  • 4. Mike Conley Jr. – 11,733 Points (Memphis Grizzlies)
  • 3. Dwight Howard – 11,435 Points (Orlando Magic)
  • 2. Anthony Davis – 11,059 Points (New Orleans Pelicans)
  • 1. Brook Lopez – 10,444 Points (Brooklyn Nets)

In today’s article, we’ll discover the 10 franchises with the lowest point leaders in the NBA.

10. Giannis Antetokounmpo – 16,280 (Milwaukee Bucks)

Giannis Antetokounmpo Disrespected His Wife In Front Of His Brothers

Giannis Antetokounmpo, otherwise known as The Greek Freak, begins our list of the lowest scoring leaders for a franchise. Antetokounmpo is the leader of the Bucks, with 16,280 points scored in just 10 years and 719 games.

This achievement by Antetokounmpo does come as a bit of a surprise, as the Bucks have had other great scorers down their jerseys. This includes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson.

These two stars didn’t play as long as Antetokounmpo, as Abdul-Jabbar and Robertson played 467 and 288 games, respectively. There was some talk about Antetokounmpo wanting out of Milwaukee, but that may have quieted down.

With the addition of Damian Lillard, hopefully, The Greek Freak will stay in Milwaukee and continue to add to his points total.

9. Walter Davis – 15,666 Points (Phoenix Suns)

Walter Davis

The Phoenix Suns‘ greatest player is usually thought to be either Charles Barkley or Steve Nash. The player who scored the most points for the franchise, however, is neither of them.

The player who scored the most points for the Suns is 6× NBA All-Star Walter Davis.

Davis scored 15,666 points for Phoenix in 766 games. In his 11 seasons with the Suns, Davis averaged 20.5 points per game.

The Suns now have three dominant scorers on the team in Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and Kevin Durant. Out of the three, Booker has played the longest, suiting up for the Suns in 530 games.

If Booker sticks around, he’ll likely overtake Davis for the franchise leader. As of now, Booker is fourth all-time in scoring on the Suns with 12,688 points.

8. Elvin Hayes – 15,551 Points (Washington Wizards)

Elvin Hayes To The Washington Bullets

Elvin Hayes, or The Big E, as he was known, leads all players in total points for the Washington Wizards. Hayes brought the only champion to the franchise in 1978, when they were known as the Washington Bullets.

Hayes scored a total of 15,551 points for the Wizards franchise on an average of 21.3 points per game. In the 1978 Finals, where the Bullets won the title, Hayes averaged 20.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game.

Hayes surprisingly, was not named the Finals MVP, as that honor went to Wes Unseld. Still, Hayes can hold his head up high as the franchise’s leader in points scored.

7. DeMar DeRozan – 13,296 Points (Toronto Raptors)

DeMar DeRozan

DeMar DeRozan is currently lighting up the scoreboard in Chicago as a member of the Bulls. But his name is attached more strongly to another franchise: the Toronto Raptors.

DeRozan played nine seasons in Toronto and averaged 19.7 points per game. Even though he didn’t win a title with the Raptors, he does hold the franchise’s all-time scoring record.

DeRozan was a solid scorer for the Raptors. When the team needed a bucket, it was DeRozan who delivered.

Even though DeRozan’s 13,296 career points for the Raptors may not seem like a lot, it tops other great Raptor stars. This includes Vince Carter, Chris Bosh, and Kyle Lowry.

6. Randy Smith – 12,735 Points (Los Angeles Clippers)

Randy Smith

Randy Smith is not a name most would know, but he does hold one distinct record. Smith is the all-time scoring leader for the Los Angeles Clippers.

Smith might be the Los Angeles Clippers franchise leader in points with 12,735 points, but the interesting fact is Smith never actually played for the Los Angeles Clippers. In his career, Smith played nine seasons with the Buffalo Braves/San Diego Clippers.

The franchise would eventually move to Los Angeles in 1984. By then, Smith was retired, but even with the franchise move, no one had scored more than Smith.

5. Kemba Walker – 12,009 Points (Charlotte Hornets)

Charlotte Hornets Are Reportedly Considering A Reunion With Kemba Walker

Kemba Walker is arguably the best player in Charlotte Hornets’ history. The franchise hasn’t had a lot of stars stick around too long, but Walker has a distinction other Hornets players don’t have.

Walker is the franchise’s leader in points scored. He achieved this in eight seasons.

Walker scored 12,009 points for the Hornets, with an average of 19.8 points per game. It seemed like the Hornets found their franchise star, but Walker left Charlotte in a sign and trade to the Boston Celtics before the 2019-20 season.

It’s a shame Walker has not found a true home since leaving the Hornets, but maybe Charlotte will give Walker a chance to increase his scoring lead in the future.

4. Mike Conley Jr. – 11,733 Points (Memphis Grizzlies)

Mike Conley JR. Memphis

Mike Conley Jr. is not known for being a scorer, with just a career 14.7 points per game average. But when it comes to the Memphis Grizzlies as a franchise, he’s the all-time leader in points scored.

Conley has scored 11,733 points for Memphis and has a 14.9 career average with the Grizzlies. Superstar Ja Morant is currently a ways off of Conley’s lead with 5,557 career points with the franchise.

If Morant can stay out of trouble and keep himself on the court, he’s likely to take over Conley’s lead as the franchise leader in points. But until that day comes, Mike Conley Jr. holds that title.

3. Dwight Howard – 11,435 Points (Orlando Magic)

Dwight Howard Revealed His Insane In-Season Diet

Dwight Howard, known for his defense, has an offensive record most people don’t realize. Howard holds the all-time scoring record for the Orlando Magic.

This achievement by Howard is very impressive. Other great players and scorers have played for the Magic. This includes Shaquille O’Neal, Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, and Tracy McGrady.

Yet, these scoring stars have not compiled as many points as Howard. The main reason for this is that Howard played 621 games for Orlando, compared to Shaq, who played in just 295 games for the Magic.

As Howard attempts to make a return to the NBA, it would be nice to see the Magic give him a tiger chance. Then, Howard can increase his scoring lead, but this is very unlikely to happen.

2. Anthony Davis – 11,059 Points (New Orleans Pelicans)

Credit: Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Before joining forces with LeBron James on the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis was dominating in a New Orleans Pelicans jersey. The only problem was the lack of success. Davis’ Pelicans only reached the playoffs twice in his seven seasons in New Orleans.

The Pelicans haven’t been around that long, as the franchise’s first season was the 2002-03 season when they were known as the New Orleans Hornets. So, it makes sense that the scoring leader in franchise history would have only 11,059 points.

Still, this is an honor Davis should be proud of, and he may hold it for a little longer. The closest active player to Davis’ scoring record is Brandon Ingram, who has currently scored 5,285 points.

1. Brook Lopez – 10,444 Points (Brooklyn Nets)

Brook Lopez

The Brooklyn Nets have had some great scorers play for their team. This includes Kevin Durant, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and even Vince Carter.

Still, the Nets franchise leader in points scored is none of the above-mentioned players. Brook Lopez has surprisingly scored the most points in Nets history.

Lopez’s point total is just about the 10,000 points scored mark of 10,444. The big man achieved this by playing nine seasons and 562 games with the New Jersey Nets/Brooklyn Nets.

The Nets have been around since the 1976-77 season when they were the New York Nets. This is not a good image for the franchise to have their scoring leader have less than 11,000 points.

To make it worse, Lopez doesn’t play for the Nets and hasn’t since the 2016-17 season. No current player is in the Nets’ top 10 scoring leaders, so Lopez’s record is likely to stand for quite some time.

So there you have it, the 10 NBA franchises that have the lowest point totals for their scoring leaders. There are many players who lead a franchise in total points that wouldn’t be anyone’s first guess.

Still, it shows how unstable some franchises are at keeping great-scoring talent on the roster.
