Jimmy Butler used an Instagram filter to give him teams so that he could pick their best all-time players to make a starting five.
Butler named Donte DiVincenzo as his point guard, followed by former Rockets’ big man Scott Padgett as the power forward. He added Kyle Singler as his small forward and Steve Novak as his shooting guard, before rounding out his lineup with Al Horford.

Butler clearly chose to intentionally make an unserious team, continuing his constant trolling of fans all summer. While some of the trolling backfired when the Heat failed to land Damian Lillard, it’s clear Jimmy Butler isn’t scared of anyone heading into the 2023/24 season, even though the Heat have gotten much worse.
How Would Butler’s Starting Five Do In The NBA?
Only two of the players that Butler named are actually in the NBA right now. Donte DiVincenzo could be a solid guard option if he has unlimited touches, but he usually excels playing a small role that primarily uses his defensive skill set. Donte will have no choice but to be the lead guard of this lineup. He averaged 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists last season.
Al Horford and Butler don’t have a good relationship, which makes it even funnier that Horford was selected on this lineup by Butler. He averaged 9.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists last season and had his fair share of on-court interactions with Butler in the playoffs.
Scott Padgett enjoyed an eight-year NBA career with the likes of the Jazz, Rockets, Nets, and Grizzlies. He averaged 4.2 points and 2.7 rebounds over his career and was thoroughly unremarkable. The same can be said for Steve Novak, who spent 11 seasons in the NBA and averaged 4.3 points over nine teams.
Kyle Singler is a name I had almost entirely forgotten about, but the former 33rd pick in the 2011 Draft had a decent NBA career. He played for two franchises in the NBA and averaged 6.5 points and 2.9 rebounds.
This starting five likely is in contention to go 0-82, which seems to have been Butler’s intention when he put this together.
Jimmy Butler Isn’t Bothered About Missing Out On Damian Lillard And Jrue Holiday
The Miami Heat could have made some major roster upgrades this summer but ultimately failed to do so. They were widely expected to be the ones to land Damian Lillard after the Trail Blazers’ star demanded a trade to their franchise, which failed. Butler relishes the opportunity of the Heat looking at the Bucks’ success and using it as fuel to dominate on the court.
“I’m happy for both of those guys. I’m more pissed off that he went to Milwaukee because he went to Adrian Griffin’s team, and everybody knows I don’t like Adrian Griffin at all since my Chicago days. But I’m happy for Milwaukee. They got better, so he gives us the opportunity to be better.”
The second guy Butler is referring to is Jrue Holiday, who was rerouted from the Blazers to the Celtics. The Heat were in the running for Holiday as well, but the Blazers were never going to help the Heat this summer after everything they tried to get Lillard onto their squad.
With many fans accusing the Blazers of intentionally holding the Heat back, the franchise needs to deal with the hand it’s been dealt. Butler looks clearly motivated to take the Heat back to the Finals despite the odds being stacked against his squad.
