• Karl-Anthony Towns opened up on his expectations from the 2023/24 season while speaking to Fadeaway World

• Towns hopes he can stay healthy and help the Wolves continue their winning ways

• KAT also was candid about his desire to be the best teammate he can be while also asserting himself in games

Karl-Anthony Towns spoke to Fadeaway World about his expectations for this season after the Wolves’ preseason win over the Mavericks in the 2023 Abu Dhabi Games.

“I think it’s just me being the best I can for my teammates. Especially for Mike, Rudy, and everybody, just being at the top of my game. Very blessed that I am actually healthy this time, God willing that stays true. What you can expect from me is to do what I have done every day since I came into the NBA. Be the best teammate I can be, utilize my talents to help us win, and have an amazing season.”

The Wolves walked out with a 99-111 win over the Mavericks, with Towns chipping in 20 points himself. The biggest takeaway was his activity on defense, as KAT was adept at guarding not only the rim but also the perimeter.

A defensive step-up could make KAT one of the premier centers in the NBA once again, provided his health allows him to play extensively. He appeared in just 29 games last season due to injury, but the Wolves were still a playoff team.

If Towns, Anthony Edwards, and Rudy Gobert could be available for 65 to 70 games minimum, the Wolves could knock on the door of a top-six berth in the West.

Chris Finch Thinks Karl-Anthony Towns Made Too Big A Sacrifice Last Season

Before tip-off, Coach Chris Finch spoke to Fadeaway World about Towns and the difference in him between last year and this season. He wants Towns to return to being an All-NBA caliber player and not focus as much on sacrificing his touches to make his teammates feel happy.

“Before the injury, he was definitely the best partner in teaming up with Rudy. We sometimes unfairly judge the partnership, not realizing how much of a sacrifice KAT had to make and continues to make. Sometimes too much, a little bit of an overcorrection there. It’s important he focuses on himself now and returns to playing at the All-NBA level he played at the year prior.”

Chris Finch thinks Karl-Anthony Towns made too much of a sacrifice last season.

Towns did see a drop in his numbers last season, averaging 20.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. But this could also be a result of the nagging injuries that bothered him, though it’d be foolish to say that sharing the frontcourt with Gobert led to him losing a lot of the post touches he had gotten accustomed to getting.

With his aggression on both ends of the floor in a preseason game, fans will be excited to see what he does when winning is on the line once again.
