- LeBron James believes Anthony Davis is the face of the Los Angeles Lakers
- James claimed that Davis is a Lakers legend
- Davis had an All-NBA-level season for the Lakers in 2022-23
Even though LeBron James is usually viewed as the best player in the Los Angeles Lakers, there is no doubt that in recent years, Anthony Davis has made a case for himself to have that title.
It seems as though LeBron James is ready to transition to being the No. 2 option on the team. Recently, James claimed that Davis is “the face” of the Lakers, and added that he is one of the team’s legends. Dave McMenamin of ESPN relayed the news.
“He is the face [of the franchise],” James told ESPN during the Lakers’ annual media day Monday. “You look at all these [retired] numbers that surround this facility, all the greats that have come here and AD is one of them.”
It is clear that James has the ultimate faith in Davis to carry the franchise to success. James will turn 39 on December 30th, and it is unfair to expect him to continue to be the lead option on the Lakers at that age. Now is Davis’ time to shine, and we’ll see how he does going forward.
During the 2022-23 regular season, Anthony Davis averaged 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game for the Los Angeles Lakers. He is clearly an All-NBA talent when healthy, and the key is simply being able to stay on the court and dominate.
Jeanie Buss Believes Anthony Davis Had An Argument As The Best Player In The League
There is no doubt that Anthony Davis is dominant on both ends of the floor when he is able to put together a stretch of games. In fact, Jeanie Buss believes that Davis had an argument to be the best player in the NBA during the 2022-23 season.
“There’s an argument to be made that he was the best player in the NBA when he was playing,” Buss told The Athletic NBA show.
Of course, for Davis to show that he is the best player in the league, he has to play at an MVP level consistently and stay healthy. We need to see Davis truly lead the team for an entire season, and if he does that, he will certainly be in the MVP conversation.
Hopefully, next season is the year where we can see Anthony Davis become an MVP-level player. He has the talent to put together a truly special season, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
