  • Lillard set to join Giannis and the Bucks en route to title contention
  • Lillard sends unconditional love to Blazers fans who supported his NBA journey so far

After 11 years as the heart, soul, and leader of the Portland Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard is finally heading elsewhere to achieve his dream of winning an NBA championship.

On Wednesday, after the deal with the Bucks was announced, the NBA world was buzzing with all kinds of reactions, and even Lillard himself sent a short message to his loyal fans. “The casuals won’t be addressed but the Trail Blazers fans and city of Portland that I love truly will be,” wrote Lillard in a tweet. “And they will be addressed truthfully. Stay tuned Excited for my next chapter!”It didn’t take Lillard long to follow up on this message, and it was only a few hours later that Lillard shared his latest music track, which is a rap fittingly titled “Farewell.”

“I could never be replaced, no sooner than later. An arrow pointed at who assumed it was greater. Amazing what I get in return for this labor. I continue leaving trails but it won’t be for the Blazers. To the fans man I love you unconditional…”

Whether you love or hate the track, you have to give Lillard credit for his originality. Instead of coming up with some generic PR statement, or writing a few words on social media, he took it a step beyond by speaking from the heart and creating a song dedicated to his 11-year run with the franchise.

Lillard’s Legacy In Portland Lives On

While some fans have soured on Lillard for essentially going back on his word, there is no denying that he’s the greatest player in Trail Blazers franchise history. Over his 11-year career so far, Lillard has accomplished a lot as a 7x All-Star, 7x All-NBA player, and a title as one of the greatest shooters in basketball history. With 19,376 points scored, Lillard is the All-Time leading scorer for the Trail Blazers franchise and it’s a record that will probably stand for decades.

Sadly, Dame was unable to deliver a championship to the city of Portland, and he’s running out of time to get it done. At 33 years old, we already know what Lillard can do on the court but now it’s up to him to prove that he can deliver in the postseason as well. Alongside Giannis, with the Bucks, Lillard has his best chance ever at a ring, which is ultimately what he wanted when he demanded a change of scenery this summer.

Can Lillard And Giannis Win A Championship In Milwaukee?

The Bucks were obviously not Lillard’s preferred trade destination, but it’s hard to argue that he’s in a good spot with them. After over a decade of being a one-man show for the Blazers, Lillard won’t even be the best player on his team anymore. That title belongs to Giannis Antetokounmpo, who seems to thrive when he’s surrounded by shooters and playmakers.

With Lillard, Giannis can elevate his game to obscene levels of dominance which will, in turn, open things up for Lillard to operate on the outside and run the offense how he sees fit. There will be no shortage of capable challengers next season, especially in the East, but the balanced inside-outside attack of Lillard and Giannis should put the Bucks in prime position to make a long and successful playoff run.
