When it comes to the GOAT debate, LeBron James and Michael Jordan are the main superstars that fans and analysts talk about. Both of them are elite players who know how to win at the highest level, with James winning four championships and Jordan winning six.

Both players are obviously winners, but their playing styles differ. James is a point forward who loves to create open looks for his teammates, while Jordan is more of a dominant scorer who prefers to out-score the opposition. Recently, we saw legendary Detroit Pistons shooting guard Dave Bing claim that he’d rather play with James rather than Jordan, noting that James is more willing to give his teammates all about it.

“Personally, I’d rather play with LeBron [James], because he’ll give you the ball. And, he runs the lane like nobody, he can finish at the basket. Michael was a better all-round scorer, no doubt about it. But, you can flip a coin, have either one of them and you’re gonna win a championship!”

It is easy to see why a player might prefer LeBron James’ overall style of play. Generally, role players enjoy superstars who are willing to consistently make the right play, and James is certainly one of those superstars. However, as Bing also said, you can’t go wrong with either player when it comes to winning.

This past season, LeBron James had a strong showing with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game. When it comes to longevity, it is fair to say that James outshines Jordan, and we’ll see just how much he can accomplish in the later stages of his career.

Many Believe LeBron James Has Had A Better Career Than Michael Jordan

There is no doubt that LeBron James has lasted longer in the NBA than Michael Jordan, and he has a lot of longevity records, most recently becoming the all-time regular season leading scorer. Coach Stan Van Gundy once said that LeBron James has had a better career than Michael Jordan, though he also stated that he is okay with people stating that Jordan was the superior player.

“It’s fine if you want to tell me that Michael Jordan was a better basketball player than LeBron James, that’s fine,” Van Gundy said. “You can make a case for that. What you can’t make a case for is that Michael Jordan had a better career than LeBron James. You can’t make a case for that.”

Though longevity is clearly important, a lot of NBA analysts, players, and fans value a player’s peak more when it comes to evaluating a player. It is hard for anyone to win six titles in eight seasons like Michael Jordan. It is fair to say that he had complete dominance over his era, and Jordan’s peak is definitely the best of all time.

The GOAT Debate Will Continue To Rage On

Ultimately, whether LeBron James or Michael Jordan is the GOAT depends on each evaluator’s unique criteria. There are definitely some arguments for James being the greatest of all time, even if a lot of older fans prefer Jordan. Ultimately, both players have accomplished a lot during their time in the league, and are the best in their respective eras.

All records and accomplishments are meant to be broken, and one day there might be a player who is better than both LeBron James and Michael Jordan. However, it is unlikely that this player will come within our lifetime, so it is quite likely that the GOAT debate will continue for a long time.
