The Golden State Warriors are not the champions going into the 2023-24 season as they were going into the season before. But that just means that they are even more motivated to make another run at the championship.

Speaking at a fan event in China, Klay Thompson more or less promised a fifth ring to his fans.

“I mean, everybody here, I appreciate y’all,” Thompson said in his speech. “To all my Chinese fans, I love you guys so much.

“You don’t realize how much inspiration I get from you guys and the love I felt in every city I’ve visited along the way.

“It means so much to me and it’s incredibly humbling and I can’t wait to get back to California, get back to work. Because you guys inspire me to be the best I can be.

“So thank you so much, I love you, and I can’t wait to come back to China next summer with a 5th ring. And I can’t wait to play in the KT-9 this year. Go, Warriors!”

This seemed like a heartfelt speech from Thompson to his fans, but the important bit is right at the end. Klay Thompson believes the Warriors can win a championship next season, and he isn’t afraid to say it out loud.

Klay Thompson Joked About Wanting Five Rings Like Thanos Earlier In The Week

Klay Thompson is currently fulfilling his media and team duties overseas as a part of his offseason. Thompson may be relaxing on the face of it, but he has something like a one-track mind at the moment.

During his visit to China, Klay Thompson saw a life-size figurine of the character Thanos. Klay’s immediate response was to say that he wanted to get five rings like Thanos collected Infinity Stones in the Avengers movies.

The Golden State Warriors have won four championships with a core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green and a fifth would make them one of the greatest dynasties of all time, on par with the Showtime Lakers.

Klay Thompson Has Been Feeling Confident About The Warriors’ Chances For A While

Klay Thompson has always had a very relaxed vibe about him, but his journey has been a difficult one, especially in recent times. Injuries cost him about two years of his prime, but he is still back and helping the Warriors compete for the championship.

He was asked about the injuries and how he dealt with them on Paul George’s show a few weeks ago, and Klay Thompson’s answer revealed that he has been thinking about a fifth championship for the Warriors since then.

“I’m lucky to still be going after five. I have no complaints, I’d do it all over again, injuries and all. I’m still together with the guys I came in with, Steph and Dray. Andre and Steve, it’s special.”

The Golden State Warriors now have Chris Paul on the roster instead of Jordan Poole too. The backcourt looks incredibly scary if Draymond Green and Kevon Looney can truly dominate inside this season, too.

Stephen Curry is still the greatest shooter ever, and the Warriors have Steve Kerr at the helm too. Barring unforeseen circumstances, there is every chance that the Golden State Warriors could win that 5th NBA championship Thompson is talking about.
