  • Tyler Herro isn’t happy about being included in trade talks by the Miami Heat
  • Herro has a high opinion of his ability
  • The Miami Heat have been pursuing Damian Lillard this offseason

There is no doubt that Tyler Herro is one of the promising young shooting guards in the league, having won the Sixth Man of the Year in 2022. He was also a key part of the Miami Heat reaching the NBA Finals during the 2020 playoffs.

Though he is clearly a valuable player, we have frequently seen Tyler Herro’s name in trade talks this offseason. The Miami Heat have been interested in acquiring Damian Lillard, with Brian Windhorst reporting that the Heat are the only team seriously pursuing Lillard. Trades are a part of being in the NBA, but it seems as though hearing his name in trade talks has left Tyler Herro unhappy with the Heat, according to NBA insider Chris Mannix.

“I know—I’m fairly certain about this, Tyler Herro has not been pleased by all that’s gone on in Miami this offseason how he’s been bandied about as filler in trade talks. Tyler Herro believes he is on a certain level. He has not been happy with how his name has been tossed around in trade talks.”

It is easy to see why Tyler Herro would be upset with the Miami Heat, but at the same time, it is the team’s responsibility to get better. There are very few untradeable players in the NBA, and they are all top-tier superstars.

This past season, Tyler Herro averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, while shooting 37.8% from 3PT range. It is unfortunate that he was unable to participate in the Heat’s Finals run this season, but hopefully, he can show out for them in the playoffs next year.

Tyler Herro Has Accomplished A Lot With The Miami Heat

Even though Tyler Herro has not yet become an All-Star with the Miami Heat, he has still accomplished a fair amount with the team. In fact, Udonis Haslem praised Tyler Herro for his time with the Heat amidst all the trade rumors, noting that even if he gets traded, “he can walk away with his head up”.

“It’s amazing, so whatever happens, he can walk away with his head up. Sixth Man of the Year, two NBA Finals, three Eastern Conference finals. His 4 to 5 years here have been equivalent or better than people’s most careers.”

At the end of the day, there’s nothing to be ashamed of when getting traded for a superstar-level player like Damian Lillard. In fact, going to another franchise and getting a bigger role might end up helping Tyler Herro in the long run, as he will be able to grow as a player if given more responsibility.

The Toronto Raptors Are A Team That Has Interest In Acquiring Tyler Herro

If the Miami Heat are to acquire Damian Lillard, then it is likely to be through a multi-team trade, as the Portland Trail Blazers already have a lot of guards on the roster such as Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe. A previous report suggested that the Toronto Raptors are a team that has expressed interest in acquiring Tyler Herro in a multi-team trade scenario.

The Toronto Raptors have a reputation as a great player development spot, having helped players like Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet become All-Star-level players. Perhaps they will be able to do the same thing with Tyler Herro, and Herro certainly still has some untapped potential that remains to be unlocked.
