- The Damian Lillard-Miami Heat deal is stuck in limbo
- The Blazers aren’t keen on what Miami has to offer
- Lillard is firm on playing only for the Heat
ESPN analyst and NBA insider Brian Windhorst provided a crucial update on Damian Lillard’s future with the Miami Heat, and it certainly doesn’t sound promising.
Speaking on ESPN, Windhorst offered a grim take, saying:
“As I look across the league and have conversations with executives and agents, I can’t identify another team that is seriously making an offer for Damian Lillard at this point. My belief is that the Heat can’t either.”

While Lillard has been vocal about his stance to play for Miami, the team has been mulling multiple options for trade packages that might interest the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Blazers have made no secret of the fact that they don’t fancy Tyler Herro, and that means the Heat will rely heavily on draft capital to sweeten the deal. According to NBA insider Shams Charania:
“I’m told the Heat have been preparing a trade package around 3-4 first-round draft picks, potential draft swaps, as well as second-round picks, a young player potentially. We see right there what the framework of a deal could look like.”
This comes on the back of the league issuing a memo warning players against publicly demanding a trade for one specific team, but it appears that Lillard is bent on suiting up alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.
The Blazers Are Adamant On Finding The Best Deal Possible
Given the recent turn of events, there is no idea of how long the saga that’s fast-turning murky with both parties going back and forth on finding the right deal.
The Blazers have all but said that they want the best package for Lillard and that anything less wouldn’t even be considered.
“The evolution of the NBA. You get hit with some shit each and every year. Dame, to me, it was time,” said Tracy McGrady, in an earlier interview.
“But if I’m Portland, I got to do what’s best for our franchise, as well. I’m not gonna give away you, Dame, with you just coming off averaging 32 points. You still got the game. I gotta get someone back that’s All-Star caliber.”
At this point, it’s a pure waiting game for both camps, and it will be interesting to see where Lillard finally ends up.
