• Kristaps Porzingis will not play for Latvia in the 2023 FIBA World Cup due to a foot injury
• Porzingis revealed he’s suffering from plantar fasciitis on Twitter
• The injury has a recovery period of 4-6 months, but Porzingis claims he’s weeks into recovery already
Kristaps Porzingis’ complicated history with injuries has continued into the summer of 2023, as the Latvian big man announced he’s suffering from plantar fasciitis and hasn’t recovered in time to represent his national team in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
“It is difficult, I feel very responsible to myself and the supporters of the Latvian national team, but a decision has been made that I will not play in the World Cup. After several weeks of recovery and a repeat MRI examination, the plantar fasciitis of my foot still prevents me from being on the field in full readiness. This joint decision has been made by both the medical staff and coaching staff of the national team, as well as the Celtics team – with the advice and opinion that it is now necessary to continue the recovery process. Such a decision is not easy to make, but I promise that I will be there and support the team as much as I can. Our land – Latvia!”
Ir grūti, es jūtos ļoti atbildīgs savu un Latvijas valstsvienības atbalstītāju priekšā, taču ir pieņemts lēmums, ka es nespēlēšu Pasaules kausā.
Pēc vairāku nedēļu atlabšanas procesa un atkārtota MRI izmeklējuma, vēl joprojām pēdas plantārais fascīts man neļauj atrasties uz… pic.twitter.com/mvyk4Dj8lU

Porzingis is coming off a relatively healthy season with the Wizards, where he averaged 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. It’s unclear when he picked up the injury, but he said he is weeks into the process already.
For an injury that can sideline players for 4-6 months, Boston Celtics fans will hope their new big man is healthy in time for training camp.
When Will Kristaps Porzingis Be Healthy?
Porzingis missed the last six games of the Wizards’ season as they strategically started to tank to improve their likelihood of a top-four pick. His last performance for Washington came on 28 March in a 19-point win over his new employers, the Celtics. Porzingis dropped 32 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in that impressive performance.
If the injury has been carrying on from then., Porzingis should make it back in time for training camp. But if this was a summer injury, it’s likely Porzingis doesn’t debut on the team’s season opener. The severity of his injury is unclear, so no timeline can be ascertained until the Celtics, Porzingis, or Latvia divulge details on when KP got hurt.
His injury history will also cause the Celtics to be cautious with him at the start of the season, given they gave up a core piece, Marcus Smart, to acquire him.
