A Teacher Told Jaylen Brown In 2014 That He Will Be In Jail In 5 Years, And He Signed A $304 Million Contract With The Celtics In 2023

The 25th of July is a date that will live long in the memory of Jaylen Brown. It was when he signed the richest contract in NBA history worth $304 million over five years, which ensured that the next generations of his family would be well taken care of.

While Brown would have always been confident that he’d make it big in the NBA, a certain someone from his in high school was certainly not. He tweeted back in 2014 that a teacher told him he’d be in jail in five years.

With this tweet going viral following the extension, NBA fans roasted this teacher.

“Send her a pic of that 5-year contract”

“You up $400m since this tweet, you gotta see her one last time.”

“Now she can look you in FORBES”

“9 years later when you Google Jaylen Brown you find the biggest contract in NBA history”

“Horrible thing to say by the teacher”

That was really a terrible thing to say to a young man in high school. What makes it even more bizarre is that Brown was a very highly rated prospect back then and had no major character issues either. He seemed destined to go on and do great things in the NBA, as he has done now.

Brown was named an All-Star for the second time in his career this past season, with averages of 26.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 3.5 APG, 1.1 SPG, and 0.4 BPG. He also made the All-NBA Second Team for the first time in 2023 which made him eligible for this supermax contract. In the final year of this deal, Brown is estimated to earn a whopping $69.1 million, as per Sportac, which is just astonishing.

2024-2025: $52,368,085

2025-2026: $56,557,532

2026-2027: $60,746,979

2027-2028: $64,936,425

2028-2029: $69,125,872

In his seven seasons in the league, Brown had already earned just over $100 million, and it seems a very safe bet at this point to expect his career earnings to be well over $500 million by the time he retires. Not bad for someone who was predicted to be in jail by a teacher.

There Will Be A Lot Of Pressure On Jaylen Brown Next Season

While Brown would be ecstatic to get this deal, the pressure on him is just going to go up through the roof. Expectations are going to be that he’ll help the Boston Celtics finally get over the finish line after they’ve repeatedly fallen just short in recent years,

Many executives are already considering this to be a terrible move. They are baffled that the Celtics gave all this money to someone who might be their third, fourth, or fifth-best player.

Brown’s stock certainly went down after a disappointing playoff run which highlighted the flaws that exist in his game. Now that he has gotten this deal from the Celtics, the onus is on him to get better and show that he is more than deserving of it.
