We have seen some truly gifted playmakers put on a show in the NBA in the 77 seasons that it has been in existence. In the early years, it was Bob Cousy and Oscar Robertson and they were later followed by the likes of Magic Johnson and John Stockton.

The 2000s then saw Jason Kidd and Steve Nash create magic on the court with their playmaking, but Mikal Bridges doesn’t consider any of them to be his GOAT playmaker. When asked to name the greatest playmaker for him, Bridges went with his former teammate, Chris Paul.

“I gotta go, former teammate, I gotta go CP,” Bridges said. “… Just being around him for years and learn and watch and pick a guy’s brain like that. That’s what makes him so different because you’re like, ‘You see everything like that?’… It’s just how he sees the game, that’s what makes him a Hall of Famer and one of the best PGs of all time. It’s just his mindset and not everybody has that.”

(starts at 2:13 mark):

Paul is one of the greatest playmakers we have ever seen and is perhaps the last pure point guard in the NBA. In his 18 seasons in the league, he has averaged 9.5 APG, which ranks fourth all-time. Only Magic, Stockton, and Robertson have averaged more APG in their career than Paul. He has also led the league in assists five times, which is tied for fourth all-time.

Even in what was clearly a sub-par 2022-23 season for him, Paul still averaged 13.9 PPG. 4.3 RPG, 8.9 APG, 1.5 SPG, and 0.4 BPG. There are only a few around who can run an offense better than he can, even when he’s 38 years old.

Chris Paul Is Looking To Finally Win A Championship This Season

What has stopped Paul from entering that conversation of greatest point guard ever is the fact that he hasn’t won a championship. He came close in 2021 when the Phoenix Suns were up 2-0 against the Milwaukee Bucks in the Finals, but they then proceeded to lose the next four games as Paul came up short in his quest to win a title once again.

Paul stated last season that no one wants to win a championship more than he does, but they lost in the Conference Semifinals to the Denver Nuggets. He now finds himself on the Warriors and is determined to help them win another championship. It might well be his last chance and he would be desperate to get over the finish line.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
