The Toronto Raptors are clearly in a rebuilding stage right now, and they have not been contenders since their 2019 championship win. The goal right now for them should be to amass young talent, and try to become one of the best teams of the future.
It seems as though the Toronto Raptors are trying to acquire young guard Tyler Herro. A report from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype revealed that they have some interest in getting him as part of “multi-team trade talks” that would send Damian Lillard to the Heat.
“The Toronto Raptors can also be added to the list of teams that have expressed exploratory interest in acquiring Herro as part of multi-team trade talks between the Blazers and Heat involving Lillard, league sources told HoopsHype.”
The Toronto Raptors did lose Fred VanVleet this offseason to the Houston Rockets, so perhaps adding Tyler Herro would be able to fill some of the void left by his departure. Herro has a similar ability to play off-ball to VanVleet, and his skill set seems to be a good fit with Scottie Barnes.
This past season, Tyler Herro averaged 20.1 PPG, 5.4 RPG, and 4.2 APG for the Miami Heat, while shooting 37.8% from 3PT range. He is clearly a player that the Raptors should take a chance on, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
The Brooklyn Nets Could Also Land Tyler Herro
Another team that could potentially land Tyler Herro is the Brooklyn Nets. It was previously reported that the team is at least “open to the idea” that sends Herro their way.
“The trade talks surrounding Lillard will continue on Sunday. Late Saturday afternoon, the Nets were contacted as a potential third team in a trade that would have sent Lillard to Miami. I don’t know if talks progressed, but the Nets would have received Tyler Herro as a third team in the trade. They presumably would have also received draft picks for helping to facilitate the deal. It’s unclear which Nets players were discussed as part of the three-team trade and if Brooklyn had any other stipulations for completing a deal. But as of Saturday evening, the Nets were, at least, open to the idea of a trade that landed Herro in Brooklyn.”
There is no doubt that Tyler Herro is a player that could help a lot of teams. It will be interesting to see where he ends up, and he could be a key piece for a lot of different teams.
