76ers Have Exorbitant Asking Price For James Harden

After 79 games with the 76ers, James Harden is apparently determined to force a change of scenery. Despite little to no interest from teams on the market, James wants to cut ties with the franchise after feeling betrayed in free agency.

After opting into his deal, he will be working with the Sixers to find a trade, but the latest report out of Philly suggests that the price for the 10x All-Star is ridiculously high.

“[Daryl Morey’s] asking price is exorbitant,” reported Adrian Wojnarowski. “Teams are not engaging the Sixers with the kind of asks that [Daryl’s] asking for James Harden. That’s where Morey always stars in trade talks, really high and over time you work him back down. Like Ben Simmons, there is hope on the Sixers’ side that, eventually, they can get Harden on board about being in Philadelphia. Right now, the Harden talks, like [Damian] Lillard, are going to linger into the summer.”

On paper, Harden is the type of player that can help a lot of teams across the league. Last season, despite a dip in his scoring numbers, James was still an All-Star level player with averages of 21 points, 10.7 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game.

In a perfect world, the Sixers would just keep Harden and run it back for one last season. Instead, Morey is being forced to seek a trade and his demands couldn’t be higher.

What’s Next For James Harden?

Unless Morey is talked into lowering his asking price, it’s unlikely that any team steps up with an offer for James, and it’s very possible that he is forced to suit up for at least part of the season.

“I was speaking to a bunch of folks about this Sunday evening. The signals right now is that he will be back with the Philadelphia 76ers,” reported Dave McMenamin. “As of right now, with no momentum appearing on a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.”

Only time will tell how this plays out, but Daryl Morey has never been one to take pennies on the dollar for his NBA stars. If he could flip Ben Simmons into a guy of Harden’s stature, don’t doubt that he can flip Harden into someone equally as impactful.
