The Phoenix Suns just made the first big move of the 2023 offseason by trading for Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards.

It remains to be seen if this move works out for the Suns, but Kevin Durant is already getting flak for it. Durant has always been called out for forming superteams, and a fan roasted him after the Beal trade by bringing up his past comment on Charles Barkley

“This pic gets funnier and funnier every time he builds a new team.”

For some context, Barkley had famously stated that Durant was a ‘bus rider’ and not the ‘bus driver’ during his time with the Golden State Warriors. He also went on to state that Durant wasn’t the best player on those teams despite winning Finals MVP twice. KD responded to those remarks by posting Instagram stories of the great teammates that Barkley had, like the one that the fan shared.

To be fair to Durant, there has been no indication that he was the one pushing for this trade. It might just be new owner Mat Ishbia wanting to make a splash, and they have certainly done that with this move for Beal.

Kevin Durant Will Be Under Immense Pressure Next Season

Durant got a bit of a pass for the Suns’ exit in the Conference Semifinals this year, as he barely got to play with his new teammates. He was not going to be getting a pass next season, and that is especially the case now after this Beal trade.

If KD and the Suns falter early yet again, it’ll just add to the narrative that he can’t win outside of Golden State. He couldn’t get it done when he was with Russell Westbrook and James Harden on the Oklahoma City Thunder, and his time with the Brooklyn Nets with Kyrie Irving and Harden was a complete disaster.

All eyes will be on him and the Suns next season, and we wait to see if Durant can rise to the occasion and win another championship.
