The Miami Heat suffered a massive blow in their quest to win the 2023 NBA championship when they lost Game 4 108-95 to the Denver Nuggets.
Down 3-1, the Heat now need a miracle to win the Finals but as you might imagine, Jimmy Butler, who had 25 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and a block in Game 4, is in no mood to give up just yet.
“It’s a game at a time,” Butler said. “Now we’re in a must-win situation every single game, which we’re capable of. Some correctible things that we gotta do, but it’s not impossible, so we gotta go out there and do it. We got three to get.”
(starts at 0:17 mark):
There’s nothing they can do but keep it one game at a time and believe in themselves, having battled through adversity all season. The Heat will take inspiration from the fact that we have, of course, seen a team overturn a 3-1 deficit in the Finals when the Cleveland Cavaliers stunned the Golden State Warriors in 2016.
Can The Heat Pull This Off?
For the Heat to pull this off, they’ll need Butler to be great and he hasn’t been great so far in these Finals. He is averaging 21.8 PPG, 5.0 RPG, and 6.8 APG in the Finals, and that isn’t good enough. With Nikola Jokic putting up historic numbers on the other end, the Heat need their best player to somewhat match the Serbian’s impact on the game and he just hasn’t been able to do that.
The Heat need him to put up some 40 or 50-point outings like the ones he had against the Milwaukee Bucks, or else they have no chance here. If he isn’t able to do it, it will lend more credence to Stephen A. Smith’s opinion that Butler cannot be the best player on a championship team. He has proven his doubters wrong before, but this will be Butler’s biggest challenge yet.
