Bob Myers reiterated that the role as Golden State Warriors GM was more than just money, it was about bringing his 100% to the job — something he couldn’t do anymore.

Myers stepped down as the team’s president of basketball operations and general manager on Tuesday and cited that he couldn’t lend maximum effort for his position, and that was the reason for his departure from the role.

“This wasn’t about money. I’ve made plenty of money. I got offered plenty of money,” he told the media.

He further added: “The bottom line is this job … requires complete engagement and complete effort, 1,000 percent. If you can’t do it, then you shouldn’t do it. That’s the answer to the question of why. I can’t do that to our players. I can’t do that to Joe [Lacob].”

Myers declined a massive payday, and according to Adrian Wojnarowski, also said no to ownership offers that would have made him the league’s top-paid executives.

He also added that he was unsure of his future professional plans, but Wojnarowski noted that Myers would be “one of the most pursued executives in modern North American professional sports history” if he decides to come back at some point.

Stephen Curry’s Special Tribute To Bob Myers

Soon after news of his stepping down broke, Bob Myers had a special message coming from Warriors superstar Stephen Curry.

“Before the trophies and the memories over this run, I remember I told you ‘You better get it right!’ And you did,” Curry wrote on his Instagram story. “The GM role was great and you did your thing, but forever grateful for you as a friend forever. Changed each other’s lives! Enjoy the next chapter, my guy. Thank you, Bob!”

As far as his list of achievements goes, the Warriors had the best postseason run under him in 2012-13 after a solid NBA 2012 Draft. Golden State won the 2015 NBA Finals and went on to win three more titles in 2017, 2018, and 2022.
