Stephen A. Smith is undoubtedly one of the most well-known NBA analysts out there. But it took years of hard work to reach where he is currently at.

In a recent video, Smith gave an insight into his life when he was poor. If you are someone who is in search of some motivation, Stephen A. Smith’s story is perfect for you.

“I believe in helping the little man because I’ve been one most of my life,” Smith said. “I know what it’s like to grow up poor. I know what it’s like to live with rats and roaches and stuff like that. Holes in your roof, no electricity, and empty refrigerator. Sitting by the stove that’s opened a gas stove just to get some heat. I know about that. And so what I’ve done is, over the course of my adult life, as I’ve learned more and more and more about what it takes to thrive. Not just survive, but to thrive in corporate America, I’ve learned some of the dos and don’ts. Because one of the things that I’ve detested for years, and I’ll confess to you, not so much of my adult life, but when I was younger, and we always heard about, ‘Oh my goodness, you know what, the lord will bless you, and there’s a better place after you’re here on this Earth.’

“Of course, I believe that’s true. I’m a God-fearing individual, I’m a Christian man. I believe in a higher power. I believe in the Lord. That’s not what I’m saying here. What I’m saying to you is this: While I’m here at some point in my life, I got sick and tired of folks telling me that a better place was awaiting me. While I was here on Earth, watching other people thrive. And I said, ‘This rat race, this game, that exists in corporate America, I’m go figure it out. I’m going to play by the rules, and I’ma beat him anyway.'”

I will always believe in helping the little man because I have been one most of my life.

Stephen A. Smith started from the bottom but is now considered one of the most famous TV personalities out there. He reached this status with his sheer will to change his destiny and hard work.

As of now, he reportedly earns $12 million per year. But the veteran NBA analyst believes he’s still underpaid, as compared to others in the industry.

Stephen A. Smith’s Honest Answer About His Legacy As A Sports Broadcaster

Stephen A. Smith is one of the most recognizable faces working for ESPN. Over the years, he has only increased his popularity among fans.

If and when he retires from the job, he will be remembered as one of the most iconic sports broadcasters of all time. The 55-year-old doesn’t want to stop there, he wants to be alone at the top.

“Spike Lee, Tyler Perry… my aspirations to get to that point. I’m going to pursue acting, I’ve finally made the decision to do that. That’s something that I wanna do because I like portraying other characters and find myself marrying that character. I think it makes me better on television, and I’m not satisfied with what I’ve accomplished in television. In the world of sports, yes, but I plan to take that a step further. I want to end my career being recognized as arguably the greatest television talent in history…. “

He wants to branch out into acting. Is it a realistic goal? At 55 years old, Smith still has plenty of time to pursue his acting career. It will be exciting to see him try this new challenge.
