LeBron James has always been chasing the ghost of Michael Jordan to become the greatest basketball player of all time.

While most believe that Jordan is still the GOAT, many former NBA superstars, including Charles Barkley, have claimed in the past that LeBron has the potential to surpass Mike.

“Man, this guy, LeBron James, I do think he [could be better than Michael Jordan],” Bakley said. “I always look at guys from my era like I thought I would never compare somebody to Michael Jordan. But this guy LeBron James, from a basketball [point of view], like he does everything well.”

“Michael did everything well. LeBron James just bigger, stronger, faster, that’s the only difference. This other guy is 6’8″, 260. He guards power forward, he plays power forward. I mean, this guy has the most unique body set. It’s like Magic playing the point like wow, this is a 6’9″ point guard.”

Barkley made these claims back in 2012 on the opening episode of NBA TV’s ‘Open Court’ show. James used to play for the Miami Heat at the time and was unarguably at the physical peak of his NBA career.

Former players have slowly but surely started to sway in LeBron’s direction in the GOAT debate. Julius Erving, six years ago, praised James’ feat of going to eight straight finals and ignored the King’s record in NBA Finals appearances.

While James’ achievements in the NBA cannot be underestimated, when our writer, Eddie Bitar, did a full comparison between Michael Jordan and LeBron James, he reached the conclusion that Jordan is still the GOAT.

Charles Barkley Believes Michael Jordan Is The Greatest Basketball Player Of All Time

Over the years, Charles Barkley’s opinion about the GOAT between Michael Jordan and LeBron James has changed.

Chuck may have believed that James had the potential to surpass Jordan’s status as the GOAT, but the ‘NBA on TNT’ analyst has backtracked on these comments. Barkley recently revealed that MJ is the greatest because LBJ left to create superteams.

“LeBron is amazing. What he has done in the community is amazing,” Barkley said. “LeBron has stacked his teams. Let’s be realistic. To go through the grind and lose – which Michael did. When I was watching that documentary, I was like, ‘Damn, I forgot how much the Pistons beat him up.’ But going through that struggle, that’s what separates sports. The struggle is part of your legacy.”

Jordan may be Chuck’s GOAT, but he still respects LeBron’s career in the league. In fact, Barkley believes LeBron has the greatest story in the history of sports.

James is currently 38 years old, and if he can win a couple of more rings, he still has a realistic shot at becoming the greatest basketball player of all time. But it’s certainly easier said than done.
