The Milwaukee Bucks beat the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night and Suns head coach Monty Williams was not happy with the officiating.

He blasted the referees for the free throw disparity, as Giannis Antetokoumpo shot more free throws than his entire team combined.

“It’s not fair,” Williams said. “Book (Devin Booker) has 3 free throws… And Jrue Holiday is one of the most physical defenders in the game, he has 3. Giannis has 24 free throws. It’s ridiculous, there’s no other way to put it. DA (Deandre Ayton) can’t play when a guy just runs into you the entire game. We’ve dealt with this so many times with this team.”

Giannis attempted 24 free throws in the game while the Suns only attempted 16.  There were some questionable calls that went in favor of Antetokounmpo during the game, which would have just added to the frustrations for the Suns.

As Monty stated, they have had to deal with it quite a few times, as these teams faced off in the 2021 NBA Finals. Giannis averaged 14.1 free throws per game in that series and had Deandre Ayton in foul trouble back then as well. The Suns will just have to change their strategy of having Ayton try to guard Giannis all the time, as building a wall is probably the way to go.

Antetokounmpo finished with a game-high 36 points and he also had 11 rebounds and 8 assists in this 116-104 Bucks win. It was their 50th win of the season and they clinched a playoff spot with it. As for the Suns, it was a 3rd straight defeat and they’ve dropped to 37-32. They need Kevin Durant back on the court, but it appears his return would come near the end of the season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Explains The Only Way He Can Be Guarded

Giannis is averaging an impressive 31.5 PPG, 11.9 RPG, and 5.5 APG this season while shooting 54.1% from the field. He has been more dominant on the offensive end than ever before and is very much a part of the MVP race.

Antetokounmpo recently gave an interview, where he was asked how he can be guarded and he said it’s not possible 1-on-1. He said it requires a team effort and that is very much the case. Even that isn’t enough at times though and it speaks to just how great Giannis is.
