When the Los Angeles Lakers were playing against the New Orleans Pelicans, cameras caught LeBron James writing a message and signing a young fan’s “I Promise School” book.

It was a beautiful moment but some fans also noticed, for the first time, that James writes with his left hand!

He is, in fact, left-handed but is somewhat ambidextrous. LeBron once explained as well, just what led to him being a right-handed basketball player, as said it was because of Michael Jordan and Penny Hardaway.

“I have no idea how I became a right-handed basketball player,” LeBron said in 2017. “I think it was probably (because of) Michael Jordan, Penny Hardaway, guys that I looked up to growing up. Seeing those guys shoot righty,(I thought), ‘I guess I’ll shoot righty.’ I’m pretty much a left-handed guy. I don’t take many of those shots but I’m capable of making those shots.”

“I work on my craft. I work on both hands… But I have no idea why I became a righty. I just thought I guess it looked cool until I got older and I wished I was a lefty because those shots look a lot better.”

It is a bit scary to think just how much better LeBron would have been if he stuck to using his left hand. He has won 4 titles, 4 Finals MVPs, and 4 MVPs while also being the all-time leading scorer, and has done all of this while using his right hand, for the most part.

He says it looks a lot better when he shoots with his left and maybe he could have been a more efficient outside shooter with it. LeBron isn’t the only one like this in the NBA though, as former teammate Russell Westbrook is also a left-hander who shoots with his right.

LeBron James Is Recovering Well From His Foot Injury

While LeBron signing that young fan’s book was great to see, Lakers fans would be hoping that soon enough, he won’t have time for that. James has been on the sidelines for over two weeks now and NBA insider Shams Charania reported that he has made good progress in his recovery.

LeBron was shooting free throws before this game but his return is still some ways away. He is expected to miss a significant chunk of the remainder of the regular season but it seems he will make his return before the playoffs, which is huge for the team.
