Reports indicate that the San Antonio Spurs would pick Brandon Miller with the 3rd pick in this year’s NBA Draft but former NBA player Jordan Crawford isn’t sure about that. He thinks the Spurs won’t draft Miller, based on his own experience with the franchise.
Crawford was entering the NBA in 2010 and during his draft meeting with the Spurs, they raised a huge concern they had because he was from Detroit.
“Spurs asked me in my meeting with them… what if we pick you and you go back to Detroit and you get shot? Lol, Spurs ain’t picking him.”

Crawford is referring to the gun incident that Miller is involved in, which led to his former Alabama teammate Darius Miles and his friend Michael Davis being indicted on capital murder charges. Miller reportedly brought the gun to the scene of the crime where 23-year-old Jamea Jonae Harris was killed and he was interviewed as a witness.
Considering the Spurs were so concerned just because Crawford was from Detroit, as per his claim, it will be interesting to see what their stance is regarding Miller. Despite this incident, his stock hasn’t really fallen, and the Spurs could end up drafting him, especially if Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson aren’t available.
Getting back to that 2010 draft, the Spurs had the 20th pick and selected James Anderson, while Crawford was drafted by the New Jersey Nets with the 27th pick. He would go on to play six seasons in the NBA with five different teams, averaging 12.2 PPG, 3.1 APG, and 2.5 RPG, and is currently playing in China.
The San Antonio Spurs Have The Third-Worst Record In The NBA
The 2023 NBA Draft is a pivotal one for the Spurs. They currently have the third-worst record in the league at 18-50 and need to ensure they make the right pick. They have a 14.0% chance at the first pick and landing Wembanyama with it would transform the franchise.
Henderson at second won’t be a bad consolation prize either if that’s what they would end up with. It is widely regarded by this point that Wembanyama and Henderson would be the top two and we compared them to see just who is better at the moment. As for what comes after them, it gets tricky and Miller is certainly in the mix, along with the likes of Amen Thompson and Jarace Walker.
